We're going to WDW July 1-5. DS's family have 4 GAD vouchers, and they also have park hoppers that are still valid. If they want to use the vouchers as entrance, is there a way to add some days to the non-expiration tickets that they have, or do they have to purchase new park hoppers to get the discount provided.

I thought there was a "everything you want to know" thread about GAD voucher, but if there is, I can't find it. I don't want to confuse the family, but if I don't understand, I can't explain it to them.

We're AP holders and will use our GAD to renew annual passes in December.

Thanks for help.

There are two issues here that I can see:

1. You can only upgrade a ticket within 14 days of first use, even if you have purchased the no-expiration option (there are exceptions for FL resident tickets). If the valid park hoppers were first used more than 14 days ago, they can't be upgraded.

2. You can't combine the GAD ticket with another ticket for an upgrade. You can upgrade the GAD ticket to a multi-day ticket and get a credit of $79 plus tax for adults and $68 plus tax for kids, but you can't use the voucher to add days to a ticket you already have (used or unused).

Ok...so if they want to upgrade the single use ticket, they have to buy more tickets that day. If that's right, I'll pass the information along.

They don't have to upgrade that day - they can do it within 14 days of using the GAD voucher. But they have to use the GAD ticket on the day they redeem the voucher. They can upgrade anytime after they use it, within the first 14 days.

By definition an upgrade is taking one ticket and adding cash (or similar) and ending up with one ticket with more entitlements. You cannot combine two tickets to get one ticket with more features.*

* The only exception to this rule is at the water parks where you can combine a one day water park ticket with a base or hopping MYW ticket and a payment to end up with a MYW ticket with the WPF&M option. Your payment will be the difference in price between the one day water park ticket and the cost of the WPF&M option plus tax on the difference.

And no ticket may be upgraded or modified in any way more than 14 days after first use. The only exceptions are the Florida Resident Play-3 and Play-4 passes which may be upgraded within six months, and any AP may be upgraded to a higer level AP at any time during the valid year.
