GAD question--Am I right on this?

We have our time all set up for GAD, but I am a little confused about something...When we get our vouchers for one day's free admission, can we buy a package or not? I seem to be seeing conflicting reports...one thing says you can upgrade those vouchers to a package, one thing makes it seem like you can't. We are going at the beginning of October...if free dining comes out, will we be able to use these vouchers toward a package? Or do I have to buy room only and buy our tickets separately? I know this has probably been addressed a million times, but I would love some clarification.

To get free dining you have to buy a "package" which means you must buy at least a 1 day ticket. You could buy the 1 day and combine it with your GAD though.

That is what I was kinda thinking.

If you go to the sticky at the top of the page under WDW tickets, message no. 16 explains how you can upgrade the ticket. You have to pick it up at the guest services window, and you have to use it to upgrade it.

If you are booking a package, then you would have to book it ahead of time, before you got the ticket.

I guess you could either save the one-day ticket or the GAD ticket for a future trip if you wanted to purchase a package.

You can't save the GAD ticket for a future one. It specifically says on the voucher that you have to use it the day you redeem it, which has to be before Dec 15. Unless you meant you are planning 2 trips this year before then. If you got a good deal on a package with tickets, you could always you the GAD fastpass option or figurine option. From what I read on other posts, you cannot combine 2 tickets and upgrade them. You can upgrade one or the other, you can't add them together towards a new ticket. You can save the 1 day ticket required with free dining package for a later trip.

You would have to save the one-day ticket. The GAD ticket must be used by 12/15/10.

1. GAD voucher can not be used as a ticket in a package. Until you get to the parks and redeem it (with ID) it is not yet a ticket.

2. The GAD voucher can be redeemed at the parks and then must be used that day. After it is used you will have 14 days in order to upgrade it.

3. The GAD ticket can NOT be combined with any other ticket to be upgraded. Ticket upgrades are done on a 1 to 1 basis.

My suggestion would be to hold on the the 1 day ticket that came with your package, redeem the GAD voucher for the ticket, and then upgrade the GAD ticket.

OR

Buy length of stay tickets with your package. Redeem the GAD voucher for one of the alternate options such as the FP.

Just chiming in to confirm everything that LilyWDW said.

If you don't need to get a package, don't. Use the GAD ticket and upgrade it.

If you are getting a package for reasons of dining, etc., then you have the listed options.
