Thanks to all who have posted on this board regarding mobility issues and other DISabilities. I was able to refer a student with Autism's parents to this site when they were planning a WDW trip.

I've read up a lot on the GAC card, but have one question. DH has a bulging disc which is causing him Sciatica in his left leg. He just started PT. We've had this WDW trip planned with my family for 6 months and can't back out. We're doing everything we can to make it easy for him. He should be able to ride tamer rides like PotC, SW, etc. However, because sitting is painful, it is easier, and less painful, if he is able to recline or at least extend his left leg and shift his weight off of the left side of his bottom and leg. Do you think a GAC would help to let CMs know that, if possible, on rides like Pirates or Small World where we're in a boat and it tends to be less crowded or they can get more through the ride faster, that we be allowed to have a row to ourselves so he can extend his leg? Also, in theaters, such as Muppets and Philharmagic, would there be seats some where, like in the back, for disabilities where he has more room to do the same...extend his leg, where a GAC would help CMs accomodate this? Or at least be seated at the end of a row?

This is such a weird temporary (pixie dust and prayers!!!) issue that came on so quickly right beofre our trip. I just want him to be able to enjoy some things and if he can recline or extend his leg or stand, he should do fine.

Thanks so much!
Kassi

We had found and saw that the GAC and the CM really try to address the needs of the visitors. I think that they do what they can to accomodate each person. It doesn't hurt to ask?

Good luck, April :Pinkbounc

I can't think of any stamp on the GAC to handle this particular situation, but when boarding attractions with bench type seating just tell the boarding area CM he needs the extra space for a leg problem. Likewise, in a theater situation just let a CM in the preshow area know the needs.

When we visited last summer DH was recovering from knee surgery and also couldn't fully extend his leg. We didn't get a GAC and had very few situations which caused him any problem, in theaters we looked for seats at the end of a row, we asked CMs where it was best for him to sit on rides and we had a great time. Ask for the help you need and you will be fine.

I agree with Cheshire Figment and loadsapixiedust on this one.
I think you would have much better luck just explaining that because of a leg injury, your DH needs a place with more leg room.

For rides that you board (like Pirates), the CM will ask how many are in your party and direct you to a row. That's the time to explain the need for extra space.
For the shows, you generally pick your own seat. One way to deal with it would be to ask the CM where the seats are that would best got the needs before the doors to the theater open.
