GAC Abuse -- just sad

Do the disabled actually get to "skip the line?" I've always read that, except for rare cases, disabled guests often wait as long or sometimes even longer. I've read that there are alternative waiting areas or other arrangements made. Something tells me that these people who hire disabled guides just "think" they are having shorter waits.

In any case, even if the practice does exist, it doesn't bother me. Disney does offer VIP tours for a hefty price, and if a disabled person can make make an financial windfall while having fun, good for them.

I agree. Why isn't it okay for a disabled person to make a buck? Disney makes three times as much for VIP services...

According to the caller, guests with assistance dogs go to the front of the assistance lines even and are boarded immediately. She has a friend near Anaheim who raises guide dogs so this caller relayed that she picks up one of her friends puppies in training and takes it with her to the park so she can get this priority boarding. She didn't specifically address this but it sure sounded like she viewed it as a front of the line pass for her rather than a training situation for the pup....
As someone who has service pups with me on every trip, I can state this is an absolute lie.

There's a possibility that any use of GACs for commercial purposes is a violation of the terms for which they were issued. If they aren't they soon will be after this publicity.

Certainly the companies that provide guiding services are in violation of the annual passes they have, where the issuing terms don't allow the holder to use those for commercial purposes.

Glad to hear this. I thought it sounded a little odd and I knew there were some DISers who raise guide dogs so I was hoping someone would chime in.

Even if it isn't a front of the GAC line pass, still a shame she's exploiting the dog and process like that....or was the whole thing fabricated? With a dog in training do you go in the regular line or the assistance line?

We get a GAC for my son for medical reasons. It has allowed is to have pleasant Disney trips. His disability is invisible, until you see him get bumped one too many times, feels closed in, stands in one place too long etc, then his episodes endure "bad parent" looks. We have gotten the glare and odd comment, but we will never do Disney without it again. Yes we usually wait as long if not longer, but it's a much more pleasant wait with my DS. Plus it's actually more pleasant for the other guests, including the ones that give us "the look"!

We have to be in the handicap line. The reason is they load us differently. For example, in boats, the dogs are to be in the first row, on rides with moving walkways, they stop the walkways to load us, and we take longer to load than regular guests.

It is very sad indeedy whenever a Gac is abused. Animal control should be called in to investigate.

Oh... wait a minute... I thought it was Geco..... ok so never mind.
