For anyone who uses I85 through Georgia, two rest areas were closed effective today, August 25th. Southbound, the one at exit 111 was closed. This was the last rest area before going through Atlanta so make sure you take care of your needs way before then. Northbound, the one at exit 173 was closed.
The reason given was too much crime at each location but the cost of running a rest area per year ($107,000) was also mentioned.
