G rated movie or cartoon

Or a Muslim, or a Hindu, or a Pagan or a . . . There's more than 2 religions in this great country.

Actually, I do think there is a lot of Christianity in the way the Veggie Tales tells their stories. It's subtle but it's there. I can't imagine a Jewish family using Veggie Tales, unless they used it the way I do, which is to teach about the beliefs of other groups.
I didn't mean that there were only 2 religions at all, just that Judiasm is ONE possible interpretation of the stories, and that they happen to share scripture with christianity. It was just one handy exapmple, but they could really apply to any monotheistic religion. I really wasn't trying to imply that those were the only possibilities. Why would for instance the episode about Daniel, not be a good way for a Jewish family to teach that story?? I can totally see my Jewish friends using it, and many of their children have seen them and identify the stories as part of their faith.
I assume you mean atheist, i.e. people who do not believe in God. Not believing in a god (or gods) does not automatically make a person immoral. That's all I'm going to say, lest I get this thread closed for discussing religion, but your statement is a pet peeve of mine.
I think sentence order caused me to be misunderstood here. I meant that athesitic families might have a porblem with the refernces to a living God, NOT the moral lesson. Sorry for the confusion. Totally NOT what I meant to imply at all!!

Sigh...love love love Surf's Up. Though there are poop jokes and The Tank is kind of, um, weird about his trophies. But it's a beautifully animated movie (I am a huge Pixar fan, but Surf's Up IMO is better than anything Pixar has done yet) and it's a lovely story...

I live in a very old mormon community, not like Utah mormon but like 50 years behind the times mormon. Not FLDS fundamentalist just very set in their ways. I have had LDS friends come from Utah and they think our community and the people are very behind the times.

I want to be respectful of the beliefs of the children in DS class. Much thought and work went into trying to find a "feel good" movie for the kids. This is my DS first birthday party and we want it to fun.

Thanks again for all the help and great suggestions.

This can't be a discussion on religion just suggestions for movies, so let's all leave this one alone before we all get kicked off. I really enjoy the boards and all the support in making this hard choice.

Because you were so concerned about the movie you picked being G, I just want to be sure you realize that Astro Boy is rated PG. Frankly, we haven't seen Astro Boy, but I don't have a problem with my 4 year old seeing some of the PG ones listed on here. She saw both Madagascar and Shrek when she was 3. Bolt is one of her favorites and it is pg.

I just have to wonder what makes a pg from a G. I also love lilo and stitch and never knew it was pg. Maybe the violence so little that it is?

I know on the back it said something to do with science fiction? Maybe the little bit of violence as well?
Yeah I was kind of shocked as well b/c seriously the movie isn't bad at all, neither is Bolt.

Just wanted to let you all know the party attendance is a success! We have all but 1 attending the party.

Many of the parents offered to take kids and car pool down to the town with the movie theater and they have all been very supportive. I think the party will be fun for all the kids and a good experience for DS who has never had a party with classmates before.

Thanks again and for all the things I have learned about some of my favorite movies.

Great!!! I'm glad you are going to have a good turnout even though the movie is technically "pg"!

I used to plan field trips for a summer program and the theater I dealt with told me that if the main character's life is in danger, it will be rated PG. That would explain why some of these 'milder' kids movies are rated as such.

As for Bolt, I thought the fire was pretty scary and a real concern for little ones, which may also have had something to do with the rating. JMHO.
