G.Bush visit - What do you think

Whilst thousands of protesters were chanting anti-American songs and burning flags and toppling a Bush effigy many innocent people were being murdered by Al Qaida in Turkey. Instead of turning their vitriol on Bush and Blair they should have demonstrated against the real enemy - Bin Laden and Saddam. These protesters would not have been able to have done likewise in Iraq before Saddam was ousted - they would have been arrested, tortured and murdered. Surely some of these protesters have not forgotten 9/11 so quickly? The Turkey bombings are the latest in a long line of attacks against innocent people around the world, these bombers do not care who they kill or maim as long as they get the publicity they crave. They want the world to be frightened of going anywhere or doing anything, if we stand back and let them do it they will have won. I for one support Bush and Blair (and I am no Labour supporter), THEY are the ones who are doing the right thing by fighting for freedom throughout the world. While I defend the right for freedom of speech and protest it doesn't make me feel anything more than disgust and shame at those who marched yesterday while their own countrymen were being put into body bags.

Support the Alliance - defeat terrorism.

FloridaLol

Well said floridalol -- BUT i wonder were all these great people were when hundreds of people each year in my part of the UK ( and on the mainland ) were being slaughter by the IRA -- but i suppose you've all forgot about these TERRORISTS --

Tony and George NEED TO START from home first.

Support the Alliance - defeat terrorism. i agree but not selected terrorists.

jj........

And I feel disgust and shame that we invaded and attacked a Country that wasn't attacking anyone else.Yes Saddam was a tyrant but probably countless more people and certainly babies and children died as a result of our sanctions against Iraq marginalizing them even more. What about all the innocent Iraqi and Afghan people who have been put in body bags?Even the 'experts' admit that the base of Al Queda/Bin Laden was not in Iraq. What about the Alliances war crimes? Are we not terrorists too.If someone I loved had given their life for this madness I would never be able to come to terms with what the loss was for.It is the British and US soldiers I feel pity for, this is war that can never be won by fighting only by negotiation.

As before the war I somehow seem to be the lone voice on DIS that is anti war as a way of resolving problems.I'm obviously not alone in my opinions although on this site you'd think I was.We are all entitled to our opinions:rolleyes:

We are all entitled to our opinions

And yes your lucky you can say that Kazzie -- many Iraqi and Afghan people couldn't --

Country that wasn't attacking anyone else

Ohhh thats right Saddam was to busy killing his our people - used chemical weapons on the Kurds -- putting down a rebellion of Shi'ia in the south he has razed towns to the ground and drained marshland.

this is war that can never be won by fighting only by negotiation.

Yes the British PM NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN thought that to Kazzie.

Im not having a go at you Kazzie just trying to balance things up -- No one likes WAR -- and i can tell you better than anyone -- i've had 30 years of war here in Ulster.

jj.......... :(

very well said, FloridaLol and JJ, I totally agree.

I too am most certainly no labour supporter, but I agree that mostly the right decisions have been made to fight terrorism.

Richard.

They say there are 3 things you should never discuss, wages, religion and politics as they are so emotive!

I won't go on anymore as this is not really a debate board.Unfortunately for a subject like this there is no right and wrong or easy answer just passionatly held sometimes opposing opinions. Both sides with cases to put their point of view, and this is all it can be,a view on the wider picture and is not all encompassing .Perhaps within both sides of the 'Is war the answer' are right AND wrong on what is contained in their beliefs:(

JJ,

Surely the 'war' against the IRA never came close to being won? It wasn't until compromise and negotiation were the tactics used that any progress was made.

This must have been very difficult for people to do,to sit around a table with 'the enemy'.But someone must have realised when there is a cause that people will fight and happily die for (IRA,Palestine etc.) you cannot 'beat' someone who will lay down their life for what they believe in and when they die someone will step over them and do the same thing again and again.Surely warfare cannot overcome this?

I said I wouldn't say anymore and I've started again! OK I really am off now:earseek:

I have to agree with both points Kazzie but!!!! lol -- The war against the IRA - Can anyone really say any british PM or our so called Amercia friends ( after all who have spent years funding the IRA) were really engaged in a war with the IRA. if both had spent a quarter of the resources they have in Iraq they'd have defeated the IRA years ago.

As for compromise and negotiation yeah there was plenty of that -- All the terrorists were let out of Prison -- we can't fly the Union Jack -- Our Courts have been stripped of all Royal Coats of Arms - a Foreign government has a say in the interal affairs of this part of the UK.

And what did the PEOPLE get in return from the IRA -- More punishments shootings -- 3 IRA men training the FARC terrorists in Colombia --IRA men getting right into the heart of Government spying -- 100's prison officers having to move houses because their personal details had been compromised.

All in all a one way street

As for someone who will lay down their life for what they believe in -- it is hard to beat that -- but thats were we need to break down these terrorist cells before they can lauch more Atrocities.

But i'd like to get back to my POST ( lol)

Democracy was alive and well in London this week as it should be -- i didn't agree with most of the protesters but in a free country they have their right to be heard.
