I went to guest relations at Animal Kingdom this morning and was told that Picnic in the Park was seasonal and that they didn't do it at all this year. Well, as I was walking through one of the stores in Animal Kingdom (I forgot which one, sorry!), I noticed some sandwiches by the door on sale and then lo and behold! I saw a Picnic in the Park sign. I had asked a cashier about it and she did confirm that it's Picnic in the Park!

They have Meal for 2 : 2 Sandwiches,2 bags of chips, 2 desserts for 17.99
Meal for 3: 24.99
Meal for 4:32.99

It also comes with a Green Mickey reusable bag.

I wonder how come Guest Relations didn't know about this?

The original picnic in the park was something you had to book in advance and pick up from a specific location in the park at a particular time (from what I recall anyway - we didn't do it). It sounds like what you saw was just something the store was selling? Unless you meant that was the same thing that you had to order in advance. I have also not heard of the program coming back since they discontinued it (apparently). If that was the "real" thing, it does seem weird that they wouldn't know that throughout the park.

yeah, that is a very scaled down version of the original picnic in the park, and not quite the same set up (although the reusable bag is the same, I think.) The original version did have to be ordered in advance...and had several different options (sandwiches was the cheapest version, IIRC...you could also order chicken as an option, but that cost more.)

When we did PITP in May 2009, you had to pre-order 2-3 hours in advance at a station near the park entrance. At the time there were 2 tiers to order from, 1 was sandwiches and the other was your choice of rotisserie chicken or ham and with each you could choose large sides, drinks and desserts. You picked up your picnic at Kussafiri in Africa at your scheduled time. This version of PITP has not been done in a little over a year i believe.

I just noticed this on Friday at the park. I thought it was also gone but wished I had know the sandwiches, etc were still there. It was kinda off the beaten path by the oasis.

Yes, it's the store between Dinoland and Asia that sells the general Disney merchandise. They have a cooler near the door with sandwiches, salads, etc. and a sign about a picnic in the park above the cooler.

We were really looking forward to doing the Picnic in the Park this trip. We assumed it was still offered as it is still showing on Allearsnet.com as either an option with sandwiches or you can get rotisserie chicken or ham.

Hopefully we can still get the sandwiches!

The ham was discontinued about halfway through the program. As of 2010 the chicken option and pre-ordering was discontinued. The only current option is the grab and go sandwiches.
