well, all i can say is YUCK!! i don't expect any ship to be "perfect" but the roach part made me sick to my stomach!

Second Carnival Ship Flunks CDC
Carnival's Fantasy is the line's second ship in a few months to fail the Centers for Disease Control's twice-annual Vessel Sanitation Inspection. Fantasy, which recently scored an 83 (86 is passing), follows Carnival Pride; the latter vessel had also failed with an 83. Carnival Pride has since passed the mandatory re-inspection required of all ships that miss the passing grade with the proverbial flying colors -- the ship actually achieved a perfect tally of 100.

On Fantasy's part, big deductions came in food service areas -- particularly in cases of potentially hazardous food temperatures and damaged galley equipment, ranging from cracked glasses and plates to fridge and freezer thermometers. Its most eye-catching offense occurred in the ship's meat preparation and buffet areas. According to the CDC's report, "numerous roaches were observed ... the roaches were in various stages of development."

The ship will face a mandatory re-inspection and, according to a Carnival spokesman, "corrective action was immediately taken regarding all of the various items noted during inspection and this information has been submitted to the CDC." The spokesman noted that this was the first time in a decade -- and some 83 inspections -- that Fantasy has scored less than a passing grade.

Wow! I'd love to know what kind of scores the Magic and the Wonder get on these inspections. I'm surprised that the Pride also scored low since I think it is their newest ship.

this site has all the info you would need to find out.

looks like Magic received a 97 in June 2004 and the Wonder received a 98.

Gross...if there were roaches in the kitchen there were roaches all over the ship, just ready to hide in guest's luggage !!!

I did see a big mouse on the Magic.:bounce:

Gross, I was on the Fantasy back in October..now my skin is crawling......

this doesn't surprise me at all.. I took a cruise on the Fantasy (Was my first cruise ever, and me and my friends did it cause it was dirt cheap) anyway, it was like a trashcan on the water. Nastiness everywhere. I was scared to get in the pool, hottub, and the food was bad too.

I checked out the websitge listed avove; very interesting and helpful site. Thabks for the info.

I don't condone the scores of the Fantasy and teh Pride. But, most of Carnival's ships scored in the high nineties, especially the newer ones. Even the Magic has scored in the 80's, just a point or two above failing.
Roaches are brought into any ship or restaurant by produce and other boxed items. They are very difficult to get rid of. You're kidding yourself to think they aren't everywhere, especially in cities or in the South.
Keep in mind that DCL only has two ships to keep up.

my first cruise ever was on the fantasy 7 years ago- i had nothing to compare it to back then but it didn't seem dirty and the food was pretty good

i realize carnival has many more ships to keep up.... but that is no excuse for not keeping each ship in "tip top" condition

Actually the Pride is not one of the newer Carnival ships. It was built in 2001. Yeah - I know, seems rather young! :)

In the cruising industry that almost makes her middle age!

Actually on our recent Fantasy cruise, the ship was very clean.... rooms were spotless, only problem they had was keeping up with the "puddles" near the dining room and on the steps from the rough waters.
Food to me was surprisingly good.
Hey, my DS in college brought some little critters home with him last summer, good thing we fumigate everything before he comes in.
