Just an FYI, if you are looking to get a shot and wondering how/where to get one..................

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041001/cgf020_1.html

I have had the shot past 4 or 5 years, have not had the flu. Prior to that, most years got the flu, felt like I was dying for a day or two, felt like a truck hit me for a week after. But past years, with the shots, nothing.

Again, just a heads up. There is a link in that press release to locate near you.

 I want to thank you so much for posting the link about getting the flu shot. How fortunate that you were so nice giving everyone a heads up about where they could get a Flu shot.Having asthma, the Flu is definately not something that I can afford to get ! Thanks again Dan M .

I too have been getting the flu shot for a number of years...I think its about 8 now and from Walgreens every year...its a wonderful service.

I had the flu two years in a row ... both years in mid November; partly I think because I was doing too much in early November and my resistance was down. It was terrible...in bed for a week and felt HORRIBLE, no energy for anything.

The third year I decided to admit I was getting older and I needed the flu shot and I haven't looked back!

Thanks Dan. I just printed my local stores, and the dates and times. I got my first Walgreens flu shot last year, was getting them through dh's employment before then, but I'll be going to Walgreens again this year. Cost is the same, and Walgreens hours are better.

I had the flu once, as an adult, and I have never felt as incapacitated, or near death, as I did that week. It's awful. :(

If you can, get the shot.

A&P is also doing them, if you have one near you...and I think Rite Aid also. THanks, Dan! I'm in a high-risk group so I hope I can get one. NEver have before.

Yep, the 5th when Dan originally posted this it was "All systems Go" now on the 7th, things are different.
I sure am glad my whole family got the flu shot on the 5th!

You are lucky! DH is a bit upset to find out he won't get one. DS will get one because of his asthma.

Thanks for the heads up Dan! I had my physical yesterday and my dr said: due to flu vaccine shortage, many drs offices will not be providing shots this year. He suggested I go to GIANT food store. They are giving them to high risk patients only for $20.pp.
This is my 5th year doing so, and I would hate to go without.
Good luck to all those in need of one.

High risk includes:

65 years or older?
do you reside in a nursing home or chronic care facility?
do you have lung or heart disease?
do you have asthma?
do you have a chronic metabolic disease: kidney, blood, or diabetes?
are you immunosuppressed?
if you are a parent or legal guardian, is your child receiving long term aspirin therapy?
are you pregnant?
are you a healthcare worker directly involved in patient care?
are you an out of home caregiver or household contact for children less than 6 months of age?

Gina, I think if you live with a high-risk child you are in the group that SHOULD get one.

My Mom's doctor doesn't think he'll get any flu vaccine this year. I've got a list of stores to get it at for her. I work around 2000 kids every day and worry about getting it and giving it to her. I just want her protected - I'll deal with it if I get it.

My DH is on the list from the primary doctor to get one when they finally come in..................but he needs to wait to get clearance from the cancer doctor that his blood counts are high enough that he could tolerate it!!

I wish it were true, luvwinnie. According to the specs, it's not. I usually don't get one, but DH always did. I'd feel more comfortable if he were still able to get one. Something about not upsetting the applecart and all that.....

Hmmmmm, I don't fit any of those categories, and my asthma is not all that bad. I did hear on news today they thought some more would be coming into the pipeline, possibly alleviating some of the shortfall.

Thanks, Dan! I'll add this to my Kroger and Farm Fresh dates. :) I'll be looking for both of us to get it being we have a chronic disease. I see one release form requires people to be 18 to get it. Ack! Will have to look into the other places. Also $20 each here. :earseek: I miss getting my freebie at the hospital from when I worked there.
