FYI: More Cuts Coming

I'll probably get flamed for this, but it's entirely illogical and poorly thought out for posters to say that they will not being going to Disney because Disney is cutting back and laying off part time employees.

This effect could cause more layoffs and budget cuts do to less revenue...just saying.

Flame on.

Attendance is at an all time high and they are still cutting employees hours....
So I dont think that logic can be applied. All rhe people going so far haven't been able to save people's jobs

There's only so much you can disappoint people before a lot of loyal customers stop going. And who knows if new customers would be as loyal as the old ones. That point might more likely come sooner than later. I don't think any corporate management before Iger's would've thought of cutting back like has been done in recent years

You are right. They are testing loyalty. It seems dangerous. Has DVC insulated them from to much backlash? I guess that market could go in the tank just as quick.

Because there is one Fantasmic or MSEP a night instead of two does not mean that a first time guest is going to have a bad time. They will have to do a bit of planning if they want to see a show, because there will be more guests trying to get to that show. It doesn't necessarily mean they won't get to see it. At least the poster knows if they really want to see Fantasmic to consider a dining package or lining up early. It is a pain compared to what they could have done (waited for the second show) but it does not necessarily mean they will have a bad time.

:) I haven't connected Disney with "a bit of planning" since before October of 2013. All of my planning has been substantial (and exhausting). These cuts won't help that. But I do get your point MakiraMarlena. It is possible to have a good time.

Maybe the DISBoards, like Mission:Space, needs a "green" TPA&S forum, and an "orange" TPA&S forum... Green is for the newbies or people who don't want to read about the issues (like a photo of Gisele Bündchen), and Orange is for those who are willing to consider WDW as it is, the good and the bad (like a photo of Gisele Bündchen with a mole on her chin).

I'll take Orange, although I know it will give me a headache.

True. I am finding it easier to plan my next trip. With Soaring closed, I don't need to choose between it and Test Track.

That is positive thinking! I'm not thinking using FP is wise for Epcot right now. Hop over to MK and burn them there.

Breaking News: Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs will now be Snow White and the 5 Dwarfs:(
Happy and Sneezy were given their walking papers. Happy was let go because he became sad when he heard about his chipmunk friend Dale getting the pink slip. And we cannot have a Sad and Grumpy dwarf. Sneezy was let go do to the cost of the Kleenex's he used.

Just trying to bring some humor into this sad situation.

Disney is a business. Efficiency, without thinking of individuals is the right thing to do. Shareholders come first.

Disney is a dream, a vision, the happiest place on earth. In our loving fantasy world, people who work at Disney and make us happy should be treated as family, so we can have the best experience that we have been used to. This was also the vision of Walt.

Two completely differing views, for the exact same company. The divergence of thought is causing this conflict. Disney the man (and the company) that was is not Disney the company that is.

Solution? Instead of saving millions of dollars from hard working people who ACTUALLY make a difference, how about the top management take a 10% cut? My "guess" is that would save 100's of jobs and meet both objectives. Not naive enough to think that this would happen, but hopeful that at SOME TIME in our lifetime people can quantify how much is enough.

Seems the great business leader, the Iger and his Igertrons are about to fall on his face. He as so impressed by himself, praising he was making Disney a international Company in the east.........now the Chinese government has fleeced him and well as many other companies opening plants in China and moving jobs there!..........serves them right! It will not be long before the Chinese will not only own the eastern parks but be running them as well.

THAT is my biggest fear. China (at least the leaders) has ambitions FAR above what morality and humanity would allow. Our corporations with OUR money (as shareholders) are looking at the narrow, short term view and pandering to China. As their economy sours, what do we expect from a Government that treats their citizens as they do (one child policy resulting in sterilization in some cases once you have a child, political arrests, etc)?
That said, even though I have limited my trips to Disney, I am a little hypocritical since I still go there. At some point, maybe this will be something I can take a hard stance at. Do not know what that tipping point would be.

they are. As I posted earlier, no matter what they do (make cuts, close attractions, raise prices etc.) people flock to disney. Many on this thread are disappointed, but still have plans to go to disney and will not stop going.

And many are cutting back.

Any company that considers themselves untouchable does so at their own peril.

If a company slices to the bone during boom times, what happens during a real down turn?

What if the next Star Wars (and the next) is a bust?

And, there's the ABC network primary assists:
What if Modern Family runs it course and starts repeating itself?
What if Dancing with the Stars runs out of stars?
What if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. turns into a kiddie show?
What if Quantico starts making shows with impossible to decipher plot-timelines?
What if The Bachelor turned shallow and unimportant?
What if Castle and Becket started getting along?
What if Castle and Becket started fighting again?
What if Castle and Becket started getting along?
What if Castle and Becket started fighting again?

I'm just sayin'

I disagree. Disney can be cocky but there is a point where they are too cocky. If they continue with this and then add the new digital ticket book concept I've now heard rumored they are likely going to start losing business.

At what point is it no longer meaningful for Disney to call workers "cast members?" That term has been used to project the idea that everyone working there is a performer whose purpose is to make guests feel like they've left the real world and all its concerns behind. When you treat them simply as bodies needed to perform tasks, you're on your way to being no more magical than Wal-Mart.

If they continue to charge all access prices, but replace the current all access with this digital ticket book rumor, that might very well put us over the edge. I was very disappointed to read that rumor.

That rumor is new to me (thoug, of course the concept is very old) Where can I read about that?

It will be my line in the sand. I am planning one more trip in December, and that is because I really want to bring the little girls on my street one more time. My own DGD is 14 and will be a sophomore in HS when her Mom and Dad take her back in July, and they have already determined this will be the last time for a long time. I am not opposed to spending more money to maintain at least most of what I expect from a WDW vacation, but I refuse to pay more, and then pay again upon arrival for my attractions.

I do understand that Disney has managed to get themselves into a financial pickle in terms of their "additional" projects, and I understand they will do what they perceive needs to be done to reverse the problem. I get that. So far I am still okay with the cost, but my DH is not. If the prices goes up too much more, and the value decreases in areas that my family will find to be their real losses, we are done.

I know we are one family but it is a mistake to pretend that the return visitors will be there as always to carry the deficits and help to boost these record profits. We also all have budgets to maintain.
