USATODAY is reporting that American Airlines is canceling a fairly large number of flights in June and July for an unusual reason: large numbers of pilots are taking sick leave.
AA has announced upcoming layoffs by the end of summer, and apparently their current health insurance plan is due to change at the end of July. They are speculating that the leave requests are happening because staff are scheduling elective surgeries ASAP before the insurance plan changes.
Anyway, the upshot is that they will be short of pilots for two months, so watch for flight cancellations.
