Just an FYI to those who travel with a stroller -- American Airlines changed their policy effective 6/1 on strollers -- only umbrella-type strollers can be brought all the way down to the gate and checked there. Larger strollers must now be checked at the ticket counter with the luggage. American says they won't charge a fee for checking strollers, either at the counter or the gate.

This has been a public service announcement. We now return you to your original broadcast already in progress.

I first thought America had changed a policy, then was it one American trying to change stroller policies? then I remembered the strollers at Disney - :rotfl2:

not that i'm bored or anything!!

I pretty much assumed that this was already their policy, as it has been for other airlines.

This description is a little imprecise. The weight is important, not necessarily the style.

Here is the actual policy, from American's website:

Umbrella Stroller:

* AA highly recommends using this type of stroller
* May be taken onboard the aircraft as long as it fits in the overhead bin
* Exempt from carry-on allowance and baggage charges
* May be checked at the gate

Fully Collapsible Stroller Weighing Less Than 20 lbs.

* May be checked at the ticket counter
* May be checked at the gate
* May not be carried on the aircraft
* Exempt from baggage charges

Large Stroller or Non-Collapsible Stroller or Heavy Stroller Weighing Over 20 lbs.

* Strongly discouraged to avoid damage. Facilities were not designed to accommodate these types of strollers
* May be checked at the ticket counter
* May not be carried on the aircraft
* Exempt from baggage charges

Effective June 1, 2011, large, jogging, non-collapsible strollers, or those over 20 lbs will no longer be accepted at the gate and therefore must be checked at the ticket counter. There is no charge as long as a child or infant is traveling

We have a full size stroller the weighs less than 20 pounds so it could be fate checked. It's more geared toward those huge jogging strollers and other strollers that weigh a to. And can't be collapsed.
