We are headed for FW for the first time next week! We'll be staying a week in a preferred loop.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks and or hints that might help us "first timers"?

It will be my wife and I and my 13 year old daughter and 9 year old son.

Thanks in advance.

Just make sure you take the time to enjoy the campground. Take your bikes or golf cart and cruise throught the whole thing. Look at the decorations everyone has. Watch the electric water pageant from the beach, along with the fireworks. Enjoy the pool and campfire. Just have a great time!

Congrats on your trip!! You are going to have so much fun. I would recommend enjoying the campground - there is so much to do there. Take some time to swim, definetly do the campfire and the movie. Watch the fireworks from the beach (wear some sort of bug screen - we learned the hard way and got eaten alive :sad2: ) Eat at Trail's End - breakfast is a good amt. of food for the money - any meal is and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere. You could also go horse back riding or take those little zippy speed boats out. Have fun!!! :Pinkbounc

Plan to grocery shop outside of the campus - much cheaper by far. Look for the peacocks, especially in the trees by the boat at dusk. If you are in a tent, the peackcocks are very noisy early in the AM. Go bunny hunting (with a camera or carrots of course) right at dusk - little brown bunnies everywhere. Tennis courts are rarely full if you play. Walk out behind the 300 loop especially if there is a shuttle launch - perfect viewing area. Take the nature walk to the lodge about 20'. Enjoy the beautiful flowers they are everywhere!

just go to the settlement and go to the boat landings. you can't miss it, and they give you a map at check-in.
or you could hop on the wagon ride for 8$ a person. We did that in july and it was really pretty. i can't wait to see it in december when people deck out thier tents.

Sorry but all the peacocks are gone :guilty: . There were too many complaints of them attacking peoples cars and scratching the paint. Very sad because my kids loved looking for them. Good advice though to just explore the campground for a whole day. Lots to do there!! Enjoy yourself :cool1: !!

It will be my first time at FW in May. How well can you see the fireworks from the beach?

You can see the higher fireworks, not the lower ones and not most of the special effects. It's still a good show, though, and you beat the MK crowds.

If you go to the beach at the Polynesian Resort you can see the whole Fireworks show. We have dinner at Polynesian Resort and just wait for the fireworks makes for a great night and no crowds.

sixAMmom: when did you last go?? I was just there in August and I saw them. There were several in the trees and such around the settlement when we went in July. Although there were lots of cute bunnies and squirrels.

And don't forget to check out the tree that ate the lawn mower.
