What do you think of the chances of Disney expanding FW? We have all seen the questions about the size of lots, pull thrus, only 2 ( I'd like that, having a 38' Motorhome ), tough times backing into lots due to other campers parking in the road because there was no more room in the lot for the tow vehicle or the "toad", etc. With camping rigs getting more slideouts and big awnings the lots are getting tighter. We only go down around spring break when it is always busy so we don't see it any time but when it is full. Could it be Disney can't justify the cost because FW is so empty at off season times or maybe they make more money off the stick rooms, and DVC, they see no reason to expand an old campground? Or perhaps there is no more suitable land surrounding FW to make it possible to expand? We love how the lots are setup, with room between each site ( have stayed at campgrounds where our slideouts were only inches from our neighbors ), the trees that keep the noise from traveling to other sites and the loops of sites. But I believe FW was designed and built with tents and small travel trailers in mind not envisioning ( hard to believe Walt not looking to the future ) the future with the big RVs of today.

Plans are in the works :thumbsup2. Just a matter of time.

Plans ? What plans ? Come on John, what do you know ??? popcorn::

John what do you know? Please share your knowledge!! I do think they should build on or add another campground. It has realy been difficult getting reservations..because our secret is out!!
That would be sooooo cool if the did build on!! :cool1:

I am betting that a campground DVC could be in the works. With the huge success they have had for rooms why not do a campground version. Timeshare/Membership campgrounds are doing pretty well. I would love to see a disney version.

I'll never go for traditional timeshare because I already bought the room ;-)

Wish I can say more but not at liberty to do so.

In time, things should improve.

Plans in the works???!!!!????? Wow!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

I do know that FW itself has been trying to upgrade sites to handle the larger rigs with more slides, awnings, etc. Some loops have been closed while improvements were made. Of course there is only so much room to work with.

I liked a couple of ideas I've see from someone earlier threads such as using the area of old River Country, or a whole new resort near AK. :thumbsup2

But anyway, as I was saying, Plans in the works???!!!!????

Yeah, right, I didn't just fall off the  boat.

Fort Wilderness still has a ton of undeveloped land that they can put more camp sites in at. If my dreams came true that could turn about half of this land into sites and reopen River Country completely renovated.

Some of the land I circled may already be loops but from what I could tell it all looked like undeveloped land plots.

Next time someone out there takes one of those site seeing helicopter rides take a look from the air at that so-called undeveloped land highlighted in the post by schmitty.

Just curious..but how is it that you have knowledge of changes ..if any...and why is it that you couldn't share that information? :confused3

You know, I don't believe there is any off season for FW anymore, I have ressies for the week before Christmas and I have been checking for a friend of mine for the same dates (12/16-12/23) and the campground is booked but I can get ANY other resort on property (except for WL) for the same dates with a FL resident discount.

I had posted a thread a while back about the conditions of some of the comfort stations and Executive Guest Relations had told me that there were NO plans to remodel the remaining old comfort stations. But maybe that was because there are plans to expand FW and build entirely new comfort stations? maybe they will close the others for refurbishment after the new loops open? Can I hope? And maybe a themed pool too? Please

Well, if you read Screamscape or Kevin Yee's column, they've mentioned new development at Western Way that will put in new, more budget-oriented hotels, shopping and dining at WDW. Soooooo, what are the chances they would put in a big, new campground there? :sunny:

I'd love to see them build a cheaper camping alternative, and keep FW as the primo camping location, but with better pools, of course!

How about a more premo new FW Resort section with it's own themed pool, cable and internet standard, pull throughs and large back-in sites.

That wishing star is getting closer.
