Probably stupid of me for watching a special on hurricanes last night but when they are saying they are entering a cycle where more of these big storms will probably be forming, and more of them will probably be making landfall, I have to start to wonder...

WHAT AM I THINKING??????

Mind you, I live in earthquake country so where I live could be flattened tomorrow but to be honest, after seeing all this destruction, I am starting to freak out! :scared:

Not like I didnt know they had hurricanes in Florida but...

We have been at our new house in FL for nearly 2 weeks, although we still have to go back to MA for a short time to finish some things up. Honestly, I have no regrets. If you think about it, the weather seems to be getting wilder everywhere.

Last winter in MA was the weirdest thing I've ever experienced. I never knew that it could get THAT cold. In my entire life, I've never experienced weather like that. My guess is that we're just in a severe weather cycle everywhere, and FL is no exception.

Nope! No second thoughts here!

Made it through Charley, he was fast and furious! Made it though Frances, she was slow & mean! Had some damage but you know what? We've discussed other areas of the country and everyone has something. Earthquakes, tornadoes, flooding, Noreasters, ice storms, lots of snow, whatever...

The thing is that its beautiful here most of the time and yes, there can be hurricanes but living in a solid structure and taking precautions will certainly ease your worries!

Come on down! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Nope not having any second thoughts. The good really outweighs the bad.

Nope! It's beginning to get colder here (this morning it was in the 40's!) and I'm getting more and more anxious to make the move. The way things are going it looks like we'll be here until at least November.

Can't wait for the day my address includes FL instead of MA.

DH and I were seriously considering Florida to retire to, but after this last August, we are now looking at other options. It is just do darned hot in the summer time, plus, I think we'll miss our change of seasons.

So we are back to square one as to where we'll end up. Maybe we'll just stay right here in Virginia!

NOPE! Besides, here in Illinois we get about a 20 minute warning for a tornado...plenty of warning for a hurricane.

I still want to move to Florida. I figure my chances with a hurricane are better than my chances trying to drive to work on a sheet of ice:D

Looks like alot of you are still on board. Wish I could be as sure. I guess our weather doesnt get bad enough here. :)

People who say it too hot down here slay me! Alot of the time it was hotter in NJ(where I'm from) then it was down here! Now its getting cold up there already and our weather is just getting beautiful!

Does it not get hot in Virginia? ;)

We just arrived at our condo in Vero Beach last Friday night. We had absolutely no damage! Guess it's that cemewnt block construction. The most obvious damage has been cleaned up already. It doesn't look as bad, riding around town, as I expected. Hurricanes versus ice storms and blizzards? Right now I vote for the hurricanes.

Wait until you see what the homeowner insurance rates are going to be next year along with new deductibles. No one is going to be able to afford living here. I am guessing policies are going to double and the 2%or 5% deductibles available are going to be 5% or 7%.

I have entertained thoughts of moving to Florida. The hurricanes have not disouded me. The Dis threads about spiders have though!!!

Well, I hope to move down in about 5 - 10 years. Living all y life in Louisiana, I'm not worried about hurricanes. We get warnings!!! Now, California....that's a whole different can of worms. What kind of warnings do ya'll get for earthquakes?? Just the thought of the ground under my feet scares the bejeesus out of me!

The weather channel did a special on the super -hurricanes that are supposed to come our way in the future. From what I have read they have been predicting super storms for years. It ties into global warming, of course.

Who really knows, what mother nature will do? I would still live along coastal FL if I could. :sunny:

I read a lengthy article in the paper last week that said we have just left a 30-year "low" cycle for hurricanes and are entering a 30-year "high" cycle. Yikes, they said the insurance industry is going to be devastated.

I am not fond of NJ for a million reasons and hope to move closer to WDW some day, but our weather is fairly predictable and not too extreme (basically yucky all year, with the exception of a few truly gorgeous days).

and a new steel roof (rated to 145 mph) with an inner room like my DM's house.
That is what i would be looking for. And well away from the water.

Maybe, for about five minutes after I found the scorpion in my bathroom! That kind of spooked me. I never saw those in Missouri. I'm over it now and glad to be a Floridian!
