Tell me your experence with Funtown/Splashtown in Saco, Maine.
Yes I live in Maine and have only been once, which was MANY moons ago.
Just always hear how expensive it is. For the 4 of us it will be $136.00, that is for Fun and Splash for a day. Not that bad :confused3
Is it an all day thing? Would we be better off going to Six Gun City? What about some of the other water parks in NH?

It's been about 4 years since I've been there, but I don't think it's all that great and not worth the money in my opinion.

How old are your kids? We usually go on the last day of school (just Funtown, as it's still too cold for Splashtown!) as a group thing, and my kids love it. They're now 10 and 12, and we've done this for a few years. I haven't been to Six Gun City in a LONG time, but I don't remember it being worth the trip unless you combine it with Santa's Village. If your kids like amusement park rides, they'll probably like Funtown, and if you pick a warm sunny day and combine it with Splashtown it will probably be fine. Not MY favorite place, but the kids love it!

ETA: Sorry, just saw the ages of your kids! Probably wouldn't want to do Santa's Village! I'm not sure there's enough at Funtown to keep them busy for more than half a day, but with Splashtown also you might be fine.

We go every year during our week vacation in Ocean Park. It is a tradition and my kids LOVE it.
We most always go the last full week of June so it is still off season and we go on a weekday. Most years just Funtown, last year we did both. It was a scorching hot day and worth doing Splashtown.

Funtown, in the off season, is actually great. We don't wait in lines, my kids can stay on rides over and over, sometimes they are the only kid on the ride. For Excalibur, which I think is one of the best coasters out there (all wood and goes through the trees, great at nighg) we have had opportunities to just stay on and ride over and over. A few years ago DH and I went alone at night and rode it 19 times, 14 without getting off.

Anyway it is a clean park, nice employees and we like it a lot. Now we have talked to locals who say in summer (re: after 4th of July) the lines are crazy. I don't think we'd like it nearly so much if we went when it was busy but if you can go end of June still in off season and on a weekday, it is worth it.

Six Gun City is very very lame, just so you know.

Funtown/Splashtown is okay - I've not done the water side of it, but it looks like a lot of fun (and they just put an addition last year or the year before)

Do you have AAA? I believe they offer discounts. Also, you mentioned you live in Maine - Funtown/Splashtown has annual rates - it is about the rate of 2 times, but you can KEEP going all summer...just to keep in mind.

I also know that a lot of employers here in Maine offer GREATLY reduced tickets...as does McDonald's in the summer.

There is no reason to pay full retail for funtown/splashtown...

The funtown side is quite fun - I only do about 1/2 the rides as I'm not a "ride" person. Sometimes I go and take children with me (cousins, etc) and just pay the walk-in admission and do not do rides.

Here is some discounts listed on their website:

You can find info at www.funtownusa.com

Info on six gun city is at www.sixguncity.com - hubby and I went there a few years ago (just because of fond memories from when we were children) and could not believe how lame it is. We only stayed for MAYBE 2 1/2 hours. Totally not worth it...

You could always travel a little further and do "Water Country, Water Country, Have Some Fun" in Portsmouth, NH.

Have heard this is worth the money.

Auquaboggan water park is just down the road from Funtown Splashtown. If you go on a hot day. It is worth checking out. It is all water related slides, wave pool etc... We loved it. In fact, we are going back this summer because it started to storm they shut down the park and gave us all free passes to come back.

Thanks everyone for that walk down memory lane...been to all the places listed above. :cloud9: Funtown is okay. I would go to Aquaboggan or Water Country over Splashtown unless you are getting a combo ticket. If you feel like driving down to southern NH, you can go to Canobie Lake Park which is probably the best amusement park (also has some water rides) in the area.

If I had to pick, I'd go to Canobie Lake Park over Funtown any day. Canobie seems "classier" to me (though the last time I went, they had taken out some of my favorite rides and had big empty spaces. Darn you, Canobie!). My sister takes her son and our niece and nephew every year to Funtown/Splashtown, and they have a blast. I'm a bit of a theme park snob, to be honest, and Funtown didn't really do much for me when I went a couple years ago. We went on Labor Day weekend and there were NO crowds, so we rode everything without a wait. We had ridden everything we wanted to in an hour. Then we went back and rode everything a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time, and had only spent about 3 hours in the park. It was fun, but an expensive 3 hours. We didn't do Splashtown as it was a chilly day. If it's a warm day, and do both parks, it's probably worth a visit. My sister gets her tickets from her parks and rec department, and they're much cheaper than gate prices. Don't pay full price!

I will say, teenagers LOVE the park. Kids join the HS band just so they can go on the Funtown trip. My niece and nephew (15) and other nephew (12) really enjoy it. My students love it. I guess I'm a bit jaded. :)

I think it's a decent enough day. You have to keep in mind it's not Six Flags or anything (your "thrill rides" are limited to Excalibur roller coaster and the Dragon's Descent dropper thing.) Depends on how adventurous your kids are. It's just right for my 12 year old who just wants a little bit of thrill.

I concur to go in the off season if at all possible. (It's open weekends starting Mothers Day, I believe.)

I'm not crazy about Splashtown (though my kids love it) because everything is right on top of eachother. F.T. and S.T. together in a longer day than I care to be doing.

I'd second the recomendation to go to Aquaboggan. It's a bit more spread out, green areas... (And our friends, whose family originally built the park, are returning to manage it this year. They're hoping for a great summer!!)
