So I had a random thought. When you are chatting with someone you just met while there, what kinds of questions have you been asked. Such as with me when I say I am from Detroit I have been asked if I have met Kid Rock or Eminem. Like They are my neighbors...lol another one more often is they just stop talking all together as if we are all criminals. Like yeah I had to shoot three guys just to get one the plane...lol

The only funny response I have had came from a staff member at Discovery Cove. She had asked us where we were from for some reason. I don't remember why. But when we told her we were from Mississippi she almost gasped as if she was shocked and said "OH we don't get many people from Mississippi" Like we were aliens or people from Mississippi couldn't normally afford a Dolphin swim. lol

isn't it funny how people buy in to the stereotypes of different cities/states? I have met people who literally thought that everyone either drove a pickup or rode their horse to work in Houston and couldn't fathom why I didn't have an accent. ;)

Most people ask us where we are from, then we say New Brunswick...they usually have no clue where it is, so we tell them it borders Maine...the kicker is some have said they don't know where THAT is :lmao:

I oftentimes get an "Oh." and then silence whenever I say I am from Detroit.

Poor Detroit. Some parts are actually really cool and I don't feel unsafe when I am in the city (well, some parts of the city. It definitely has it's bad areas).

With how low the population has gotten, you would think we WERE all neighbors with them.
It's funny to me how neither Kid Rock or Eminem is actually from Detroit yet they identify with it so much. I grew up in Troy, never tried to tell people it was Detroit. Kid Rock used to live way up by Port Huron. (if you don't know SE Michigan, he lived a solid hour North on a fast moving expressway)

A lot of people do that, it seems. In college everyone who lived east of Ann Arbor was "from Detroit." No, you're from Livonia.

I get when your hometown is somewhere small that no one's heard of and it's a way to give then the general location, but everyone I knew used it like some kind of street cred thing.

Nope for me its when I am out of town and they ask. Then tell them just a few miles north. I say Shelby Township noone knows, you say Detroit then they know where I am from. I get the street cred thing though. It is funny when you see guys get all tough saying it. Lol

When I lived in Vermont, I had someone ask me what state Vermont was in. When I sat there dumbfounded, they asked me if it was in New Hampshire or Canada.:sad2:

LOL I'd probably just ask if you like Todd Bertuzzi but then my honey took me to a romantic Valentine's trip to Detroit in February to watch the Stars play the Wings at the Joe. Yeah, the Joe was cool. And I won't mind when you hear my drawl and find out I'm from Dallas if you ask me if I know JR and if I know who really shot Kennedy. I mean we ALL know, but we're keeping it secret.

LOL I cannot hear Vermont and not think "Vermont. Must be beautiful this time of year. All that snow." But that's not a negative thing is it?
