I know that I may be a minority around here but I admit to really being bothered by men that are allowed in female dressing areas. I have a very modest daughter and we increasingly are faced with a guys who enter the dressing room area to be near their girlfriend/wife as they try on clothes. She doesn't want to come out for the mirror (or my opinion) to see if something fits right if some random guy is sitting there watching. In light of discussions that I have read on the DIS about people who like/dislike this policy, I thought the following news story was too funny:

I didn't read the story (my computer's acting really slow at the moment), but wanted to say I've never, ever encountered a man in a woman's dressing room. How strange!

I have and it's ridiculous. I have no idea why they can't wait outside the fitting room rather than inside.

My daughter was trying on swimsuits once and they only had those half doors. There were two different couples in the fitting rooms with the man standing outside the door waiting for their partner to come out.

I have never seen a man in the ladies' dressing room either--just sitting outside in the "man's chair" Many stores have unisex rooms and then of course I have seen plenty of men there.

I read the article but the man in the article was NOT in the Ladies dressing room, he was peeping from the Men's dressing through a hole. That is different in my opinion.

I still dont see why men are in there but I dont get worked up over it.

But there is always a flip side. I would not mind it because then we would not get assulted for being in there. It is like when we go into a womens restroom, my partner is always having ( at the minimun) comments thrown at her. Last time we were at kohls they sent a manager to escort her out of the ladies dressing room. At least there was no violence that time.

Why would that happen? Can you be more specific?

A woman was escorted out of the ladies dressing room? A woman is having comments directed at her for being in the women's restroom?

Yeah same for me. Gotta love the looks on the men that are sitting in the "man's chair" sometimes I feel so sorry for them!:rotfl:

I know someone who that happens to quite a bit. She insists she's a woman, and they demand that she is not. :sad2: She's very tall, but I think she looks like a woman. What makes it worse is she is kind of a tomboy, but WANTS to be feminine and girly and this really hurts her.

Sorry OP, but your post makes no sense.

Your title is "why men don't belong in women's dressing rooms" and your proof is a story where the man was in the MEN's dressing room looking through a hole. The story is funny, but doesn't lend credence to your thread title.

IMO if it's a designated men's/women's fitting room then only people of that sex should be in there. It it's a unisex, then whatever goes.

Is she a woman who looks like a man or is she a man who lives like a woman? There is a pretty big difference. Whether or not, as a normal adult, you belong in the woman's restroom depends on the, uh, parts, you have.

Oh I am so sorry your partner has had to contend with this:hug: I honestly would rather they all be unisex anyway--which would cut out this issue at least.

Presumably her partner looks rather masculine and many people assume she is male:confused3

I don't mind unisex fitting rooms as long as they have regular closing doors. I hate curtains or half doors.

Sorry, I'll try to think of a more appropiate title. I just thought the image of 10 angry women chasing a man from a dressing area was funny. I realize that he was actually in a stall that was designated for men but I think that it does highlight the need for men and women to have separate areas in which to change clothes. It is only my opinion but I don't like stores that allow men in the women's changing area and I don't like unisex changing rooms. Some of us are more modest and this stiuation does show what can happen when changing areas are co-mingled.

To clarify for all, she is a women. She has the parts and believe me they are very prominant. We just are not very girly. She has very short hair and people assmue and start in before they really think about it. Never have we had any one even apologize (even when it has resulted in physical violence). That is why I feel unisex places are a good idea. Not just for her but for so many others and other situations too.

That's just ridiculous! Have you contacted the police? A lawyer?

That is just odd then and shouldn't happen.

It gets to a point you just give up. We expect it, sad to say. Last time the police were called in they let the guy go who assulted her. They did not even get his name. Basically blamed it on us.:confused3( I guess we need to wear skirts.....but even that would not help). I will say that Target did a great job calling in the police and protecting us.

So sorry you have to deal with situations like that.
