We were somewhere at WDW where we were eligible for a DVC discount, so of course, we had to show our card- well a picture of it, that is. After we showed it, the CM said "I know, DVC doesn't give actual cards anymore, you have to download a picture of it-isn't that cheap?"
What a wonderful comment on DVC!

When I was at House of Blues I showed my Magic Mobile App with "DVC Y". It was a funny experience because she asked me how I did that, and then next thing I know she brought the manager over and they were like "ooh and aah" when I showed them how to work the MDE. 🤣

But did you get the discount? Cuz, that's the important part :) I'll be happy to project it across the room on a wall or cast it to a nearby (compatible) TV monitor - as long as I get the discount.

I don’t get these digital cards…you just show it and get it? They don’t have to put a number in or verify you are truly a member? It would be super easy for someone to just make a fake one and have it on their phone then.

I would say a third of the time, I have only had to say that I am a DVC member, go for my phone and the server is like - no problem - without even opening the app ...

I mean it’s not like it’s 40% so it’s not a huge deal but I was once a lowly white card only and then got the blue card and felt so special!!

I felt special when I got my blue card too :) So wish it were a "bigger deal" haha .. but also glad to not add yet another card to my wallet

Yes, DH got the discount-it was the golf discount. I've been surprised that no one's asked for ID this trip. Maybe they figure that if you have the info on your phone, you must be trustworthy, but a plain plastic card could be too easy to just pass around too friends to use. Honestly, I really don't know.

Our trip last month we had to show it. We had the temporary card on the phone. Was supposed to be fine, per the Disney magazine. I had a hard time setting it up, don't want to set up a virtual wallet just to show card that links a credit card. Some servers were happy to see a valid date, some needed to see the Y. One server at Steakhouse 71 originally was fine with my sister showing her card on her phone. We then apologetically asked the server if we could have separate checks. She was annoyed, came back with separate checks and the asks for additional ID!!! She was fine with it 2 minutes before, now we had to pullout wallets to show drivers license! It was not a good experience! Disney just keeps finding a way to make things less magical.

Sounds more like servers-revenge for the separate checks - regardless - not very Disney-like for sure from the CM. I think like most program changes, it takes a while to float through the system training. I do wonder with the online QR code in the Apple iOS Waller - if they will all eventually need to scan them - easier from a cashier's perspective with a scanner - talk about a pain from a server's perspective at a restaurant.

Yes, add to that the fact that you have to take off you magic band to give to the server to pay for a meal. They no longer scan it at the table. My understanding from talking to cast members that they switched to new software. Probably just layered it over existing code. We all know Disney IT stinks. The cast members were not happy and frustrated with the change and having to deal with frustrated customers.

Going back in a few weeks ... so thats something to look forward too lol ... I must have my discount, otherwise what was all this for! :)

Been here at WDW four days now and every place has been just show the wallet DVC-Y info with ID to match. All going real smooth an easy.

That has been my experience most trips except some didn’t ask for ID because I showed my watch and they figured it was mine!!

When I was there in March, I showed my "DVC Y" at the food store in the Contemporary, and the CM said it was the first time she ever saw it on an Android phone.

Did you open a "wallet" that required you to give a credit card? If not, I would love to know how to do that.

My question is this, if Disney can track your every movement, every purchase, your hotel stay, your family members/party and their info, tickets, party tickets, park reservation, why can't they link your DVC membership ID to a magicband or you acct? Not hard IT stuff. It's frustrating! Come on Disney you can do better! 👍

It would be super easy to slip a candy bar in your pocket at the grocery store checkout, but I'm guessing most people don't do that.

The digital image card that can be downloaded from member website has an expiration date one month out and a watermark that would make it somewhat difficult to counterfeit. Yes, I'm sure it can be done but not by average Joe. It's a deterrent, albeit not a fool proof one.

That version of the card may be removed once the digital wallet option gains wider acceptance.

That's exactly what the Magic Mobile / digital wallet is designed to do. Park tickets, Genie+, photo pass link, charge card, discount verification all in one, available on smartphones and watches.

I don't see the need to give them my credit card to be able to access my dvc card as proof. Not everyone wants their whole monetary info in the Google wallet or Apple wallet. I don't plan a on using it. I guess I am old school ! Not too trusting of businesses storing your data. 😃
