Hi, this may seem like an odd question, but does anyone know where I can get funnel cakes either in the Magic Kingdom or the Animal Kingdom?
Thanks!

Not sure about AK, but in MK we got funnel cakes at the Sleepy Hollow counter service (Liberty Square area). We had them for breakfast one day!!! :teeth: Not sure about other areas, though...

What exactly is a Funnel Cake? Is it like a regular cake with frosting and such and it is shaped like a funnel? Someone mentioned eating them for breakfast - so is it like a breakfast danish then? Thanks.... :teeth:

Picture a giant fryulator full of hot oil. Now pour pankcake batter dough in a circular motion until you have a birds nest of fried dough. Sprinkle powdered sugar and viola, Funnel Cake. I think in some places and carnivals, they're called Elephant's Ears.

I believe there is also a funnel cake booth in Epcot Word Showcase - USA.

It's basically "fried dough", if you've ever been to a country fair you'll know what that is. The only place I've ever gotten one is in WS in Epcot - just outside the American building. Yum, yum.

Sleepy Hollow in MK and at Epcot in front of the American Pavillion. We get one every trip.

Hello,
Have you ever had fried dough with powder sugar or cinnamon ... also called dough boys? Funnel cakes are similar. They are made from batter sweet dough, fried in deep fryer in criss cross fashion. You can serve them warm with sprinkle granulated sugar, powder sugar, cinnamon, fresh fruit or preserves. YUMMYYY :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the info re: the Funnel Cakes. Where I am from, they are known as Dough Boys or basically, Fried Dough (no frills with that name). They sound awesome - I am not a big fried food person, but it sounds like something DH and I will have to try during our next visit. I still don't get why they are called Funnel Cakes - maybe that is a WDW name for them?

They are called funnel cakes because you get the 'stringy' look by pouring the batter through a funnel into the big vat of hot oil. That's why someone referred to it as a bird's nest of dough. Mmmm... sinfully delicious.

They're called funnel cakes because the way that the liquidy dough is poured into the grease is through a funnel - (or a larger container with a funnel on the bottom). I used to make them at home - in an electric skillet - from a mix. I filled up a funnel, holding my finger over the hole, then took my finger off and swirled the mixture onto the hot oil, crisscrossing over itself until it all stuck together with lots of airy holes in between.

Nope, they are called that around here too. I used to work at Carowinds, a local theme park, and we had a funnel cake shop there. The batter is poured into the oil through a funnel in a circular motion - guess that's where the name comes from. (At least it used to be - there may be a more modern way to do it now!)

You could also get them topped with chocolate syrup along with the powdered sugar....yummy!!

They are also called FUNNEL CAKES wayyyy up here in Canada! LOL. We have them at our local theme park inToronto Called Paramount Canada's Wonderland. For some people it's a tradition to get them when they go to Wonderland! We can get them her with icing sugar, ice cream, and straberries...you can get all on top, one, or two toppings.

Funnel cakes looked incredibly good. Then I tried one and was pretty disappointed. Never shoulda left the ice cream cookie sandwich!!!!

When they're made properly, they're really quite yummy - but the batter needs to be the right consistency (not too thick or the inside of the funnel cake will be gummy), and the oil needs to be fresh and hot. I agree that some funnel cakes are disappointing. That's one reason I started making my own - (until I cut back on fats and sweets a few years ago).

Well, I really wouldn't call it a "breakfast food," we were just being *really* bad that day. :teeth:

We had ours with strawberries & whipped cream..... yummm.......
