My DGM passed away Saturday, and I've been totally stressed the past few weeks (dealing with things from 4 hours away, etc). We have to leave for the funeral Tuesday a.m., and I'm starting to feel sick--sinuses filling, achy, exhausted, headache, etc. I HAVE to be there, so I need your suggestions as to what to take/do in the next 24 hours to ward this off. I'm really at the end of my rope emotionally, and can take to my bed Thursday, but not before. Please, please, please give me your home remedies! (Or store bought solutions, I'm not picky!)

TIA!
Terri

I am so sorry for your loss :grouphug:

I don't have any real remedies. I would stock up on VITAMIN C. I wish I had more to say. I just wanted to express my sympathies to you.

I hope and pray you don't get sick, and you get through it as best you can:flower3:

Start drinking more water than you normally do, drink more fruit juice than you normally do, just plain drinking more liquids than you normally do... you're trying to flush the bug out of your system.

Eat a lot of chicken noodle soup (wonton soup is also good).

Go to bed *NOW* drink some camomile tea or Sleepytime tea before you do (so you'll be able to sleep better).

If you can stay home tomorrow - from work, obligations, etc...do so. Get some rest.

Put together a playlist of your favorite, most uplifting songs for your iPod. The listen to them. You need to buck yourself up for the task at hand. If you can get your psyche to feeling a little more heroic, a little stronger that will help your physical self.

You're in my prayers.
agnes!

I'm so sorry for your heartache, stress and the loss of your Gma . Unfortunately I don't think there is any miracle drug sweetie, we swear by Zicam Cold Remedy Rapid Melts Quick Dissolve Tablets with Vitamin C & Echinacea Lemon-Lime. Another alternative that really works is Zinc Cold Remedy tablets and for irritated throat asst of flavors of Ricola cough drops such as green tea & echinacea or honey & lemon, etc. :goodvibes

Also highly recommend rest w/elevated pillow, chicken soup or broth, warm herbal teas and lots of water. DH usually doesn't get colds, but he was coming down with a sinus cold last week and took these faithfully and amazingly cold was gone in 3 days flat!! Hope you feel better soon Terri.

what they all said and make sure you are eating! when we get busy and stressed we tend to not eat so along with that chicken soup get some protein and veggies in there. Your body needs calories to fight off the infection. take a good multivitamin. and you resistance is down so take some precautions wash your hands a lot, don't get chilled, get some rest. Take decongestant so your sinuses keep open and draining and don't get full and give the germs a place to stay and multiply. Keep drinking so the mucus membranes stay moist and can do their jobs. and take OTC things for the discomfort like Motrin or Tylenol.

At least at the funeral you can walk around with a Kleenex and the sniffles, puffy eyes, and no one will think it is anything but grief.

Hope you feel at least a bit better and sorry about your loss.

Zicam and Airborn are what we use when we feel the first symptoms.

Us too and start drinking lots of water. I also use EmergenC, two packs a day. Stock up on Mucinex and Advil. Get those anti-virus tissues and some hand gel.

If you feel like your sinuses are filling, I would probably use a sinus rinse. I personally have never used one, but one of the docs I work for swears by them. I would also add an antihistamine to help dry things up.

Other than that, plenty of fluid and rest. The other DISER's have also given you good advice. Stress really puts a damper on you immune system. Unfortunately, you can not avoid that right now.

Sorry about your loss:hug:.

Thanks everyone for your good suggestions and kind thoughts. I'm making lists for the store, and am going to try and rest a little, too.

You're the best!
Terri

When I start to feel like I do Mucinex and decongestant, increase my fluid intake, increase my dosing of vitamin C and try and get a bit more rest and relaxation time in.

I had this stuff last week and it was miserable. I rarely take OTC meds, but when I do it's always Sudafed and Tylenol. That's it. No herbals. Just a lot of water, hot tea, chicken soup, plus the meds. It sucks that it's happening *now* but it won't last forever. Do the best you can. People are praying for you.:goodvibes
