Hey all! DH and I are going to spend a long weekend in March splitting time b/t San Diego, then heading to DL.

What are some fun things to do in San Diego? We're not interested in the zoo, Sea World or any other "park" kind of things. We're interested in cultural attractions, outdoorsy things, etc.....

Ideas from our Podcast World Travelers?

The La Jolla area is just beautiful. You can walk down to the Children's Pool and watch the seals or walk into the Sunny Jim Cave. There are also plenty of art galleries there. I wish we had more time just to explore the little village.

I have been to San Diego a number of times, it's fantastic! Look into Balboa Park, it's not a theme park . It is often call the Smithsonian of the west. It is a huge complex of museums, gardens and performance spaces. The San Diego Go Card, just google it, by smart destinations is a great value and gets you admission to all the cultural locations in SD. The harbor cruise is great to! Have a good time.

My daughter and I did a trip this past June that included a stay in San Diego. We did a tour of La Jolla with Tour Guide Tim (#1 tour that wasn't a Segway) and the Trolley Tour. That was probably our favorite as it allowed us to see the best parts of the city without worrying about transportation - you get on and off as you like and you can see so much of San Diego in one day! You can even book online to save a few bucks - just google San Diego Trolley Tour - it'll be the first link to pop up. The website also shows all of the many stops the trolley makes. This was a highlight for us.

I live in San Diego. I recommend both La Jolla and Coronado as the best beaches. Coronado also has the Hotel Del Coronado which is gorgeous. And La Jolla the seals, cove, village and beautiful views.

As mentioned, Balboa Park is beautiful with its museums, fountains and gardens.

Point Loma has gorgeous views and the lighthouse. You might also like to take a whale watching cruise.

There's is also SeaPort village which is shopping right on the Bay. From ther you can visit downtown or stroll past Petco Park home of the Padres. You can also eat there in the Gaslamp district. Have fun!

-hike at Torrey Pines State Park
-explore Balboa Park, visit some museums and the botanical garden
-go to Old Town and explore the shops and museums and eat some yummy mexican food
-rent bikes and ride the bike path (or walk the path along the beach in coronado. So many gorgeous houses, and you can get some moo time ice cream :)
-do a segway tour
-walk the path along Mission beach or rent bikes over there, and eat the most delicious breakfast at The Mission.

You will have a fabulous time!

These are all great suggestions! I'll also put a vote in for Seaport Village. We loved our visit there during our trip in 2007. You should also check out Old Town. Great Mexican dining there if you enjoy that type of cuisine.
