I am traveling to the Orlando area for work in September. My husband and I have decided to go down 6 days early and take a kid free trip. We are lucky enough to stay at Bonnet Creek since my sister had extra points. We don't plan on going to Disney we have been many times and want to save so we can take our boys soon. So we are trying to go a little cheap and just enjoy the time together as a couple. We plan on using our resort as our vacation chilling by the pool floating in the lazy river.... With that being said we do want to have some fun. We are thinking a water park day, he wants to go to Universal (me not so much). We enjoy a good meal a little night life etc. any suggestions??

Check out a beach -- Cocoa Beach is only about 45-60mins from Orlando.

I think the gulf ones are supposed to be nicer, but the drive is a bit farther.

Universal is just as expensive as WDW but we do love it there. Citywalk would be good for nightlife plus you can see a movie if you like doing that.

Do you like mini-golf? We always have a blast playing on some of the great Pirates courses around the area.

Livingsocial and Groupon almost always have some great offers on their websites for Orlando attractions at deeply discounted prices. Definitely check them out.

Some other non-Disney attractions we have enjoyed are:

- an airboat ride (we used Wild Willy's, and they were AWESOME, but there are many others in the area)
- Gatorland (good to pair with an airboat ride, as both are only half-day attractions)
- mini golfing (favourites are Congo River and Pirates Cove, but we have also done Hawaiian Rumble, Gator Golf, and Volcano Island)
- SeaWorld and Aquatica (both currently have a special running right now....a weekday ticket for $50 for one park, or $75 for one day each at both parks)
- the Outta Control Dinner Show at Wonderworks
- shopping (Premium Outlets and Florida Mall)

This coming trip, we are visiting Showcase of Citrus for a monster truck ride through an orange grove (check Livingsocial and Groupon.....both have had half price offers for this running over the last several months.

I second the idea of a beach day at Cocoa Beach.

You can pick your own oranges at Showcase of Citrus, we go every year. The place is a bit of an experience but the oranges are better then anything we can get in New England :thumbsup2

I would love to purchase a bag to bring home to my mom, but I don't think I can take fresh fruit over the border :headache: . But I will definitely be buying a bag for moi to enjoy for my breakfasts while in Orlando :thumbsup2.

I have heard some amazing feedback about their fresh orange slushies as well. Can't wait to see what all the hype is about :) .
