Fun, Sun, and Mickey Mouse! An August 2009 TR...new 11/19 p. 34

Wow, I love the queen of hearts. We saw Alice on our trip but not the queen, she is neat looking. I do love the spinning teacups pictures too. I have some from my trip, mid spin, but my daughter was about to throw up. So, we really just wanted to get off.

I just sat down to read everything I missed while I was on my trip. Loved your pictures. I'm enjoying your report!

Welcome back! Hope you had a great trip...I'm looking forward to your report as well.

I'm doing good but grad school is kicking my butt! Sooo much work (which I should be doing now :headache:) Are you teaching this semester? What do you teach again, I forget!?

Ugh, that is the one thing I don't miss about school is all the work. LOL! As of right now I'm still just subbing but hopefully something will come along. I'm certified for grades 1-8. :thumbsup2

Of all places that the family of the day could be from, they were from Wisconsin! How ironic!

Aw..yes..I agree with that kid! The MK is definately "home" to me too. :cloud9:

I love that pic on the teacups! So cute! :cutie:

I know, it was cool! Yay Wisconsin!

The MK is home to me too. ;) :goodvibes

Oh no! I remember years ago when we went to Six Flags there was a spinny type ride that I almost got sick on.

Hi DIS friends!

I just saw on the homepage that Disney is going to extend the "What Will You Celebrate?" promotion into 2010. Not that it's any surprise seeing as when Dad made reservations for their trip in January they asked if they were going to be celebrating anything. But now it's official. I'd love to take advantage of that and go for my birthday in March (25...yikes :scared1:). Might have to do it a month late though. Here's the link: http://www.wdwinfo.com/news/General_Disney_News/Disney_announces_2010_celebrations.htm

I also saw that the theater close to where we live is going to be having the 3D Toy Story 1 & 2. WOOT! We might try to go this weekend while Mom is in Disney World (without us). That should be fun. I remember seeing it when it first came out (and wondering if it was possible for toys to be like that.:laughing:).

As for my TR I'm hoping to have another update tonight or tomorrow. Haven't had much free time lately now that subbing has picked up!

Have a great night!

August 21, 2009 (part 2)

Since we were so close to Tomorrowland we ended up going there after the teacups. The line for the Speedway wasn’t very long so we decided to take a ride.

Good old Space Mountain...can't wait for it to be open again!

You know how they tell you DO NOT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU? As we were in line I must’ve seen atleast half a dozen cars rear-ended. It was nuts! All of us got our own racecar and we were off. Even though it’s such a simple ride I still enjoy it…even if my leg feels cramped afterward. LOL!

Then it was off to Buzz Lightyear for another spin.
6289_1147274894480_1605780003_30581711_2123716_n.jpg

There was another short wait, probably only ten minutes if that. Emma always complains that she’s so bad at that ride so she said Dad and I should go together. I don’t remember what the final scores were but let’s just say Dad got his revenge from when I beat him on Toy Story Mania.

I know a lot of people like to plan out their entire days ride by ride, restaurant by restaurant. Not that there is anything wrong with that strategy but we just don’t do that. Yes, we have a plan for first thing in the morning (that’s usually when we’ll do our favorites/the big attractions) but other than that it’s pretty much go with the flow depending on the crowds and what we feel like doing. As a result we tend to do a lot of crisscrossing the parks. So even though we had already been through Frontierland and Liberty Square, we backtracked again to do the Haunted Mansion. As we were walking through Fantasyland I saw these two kids wearing WALL-E t-shirts. It was so cute because they had their names on them—Moll-E and Donn-E. haha! Wonder if they made them at the Design-a-Tee store. When we got to Liberty Square the wait for the Haunted Mansion was posted at 13 minutes so we were able to pretty much walk right in. I tried to spot the Mr. Toad grave out front but failed. :( I’ll have to keep that in mind for next time. The ride was good as usual but I have to ask—am I the only one who gets just a little freaked out by it? There’s just something about those spooky doorknobs…

After the Haunted Mansion we were just about ready for lunch. We trekked through Adventureland to see what the crowds were like at the Jungle Cruise. We figured if it was busy we could get fastpasses and use them after eating. It turns out that there wasn’t much difference between the stand-by wait and the fastpass return time (fastpasses were maybe half an hour out) so we decided to just do stand-by. Again, it was a pretty minimal wait before we set off to explore the rivers.

5210_605119997714_20305212_35625892_61538_n.jpg

Our skipper was a younger girl, probably a CPer and she was pretty good. I always feel bad for the skippers if the passengers don’t respond to the jokes so I always try to play along and laugh a little bit, even if we’ve heard those jokes dozens of times. I like the one they added about a gift shop being at the end of the temple. Haha

When our cruise was over we headed back to Main Street to get some hot dogs from Casey’s. It was also nice to sit down and relax for a while since it was getting to be noontime. Nothing like eating lunch with Cinderella Castle as the backdrop, glimmering in the sunlight! The only annoying part was those crazy ducks and other birds who are constantly at your feet wanting you to feed them. I seriously hate when people do that. UGH.

As we were finishing our hot dogs, the Magic Kingdom opening song started up again. Some of the citizens of Main Street were out performing which was neat—I had never seen that before. One of the songs they danced to was “I’m Walking Right Down the Middle of Main Street USA” which reminded me of another one of those Disney sing-alongs. I went over to take a couple of quick pictures before they rode off in the horse-drawn trolley.

Since I wanted to see the Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Parade we headed towards the hub. We found a bench and just kind of people watched until it started. I also took a random picture of some of the flowers near the bench.

Not sure what they were doing on the castle...

Then the music started up (Hannah Montana’s “Pumpin’ Up the Party-which I had stuck in my head pretty much all afternoon afterward!) and we could see the party coming up the street.

It was a very colorful procession with dancers, stilt walkers, and floats. I think there were 5 or 6 floats and they ended up circling around the hub before stopping—we had a great spot to watch! There was also an MC to the parade and asked what people were celebrating. You had to scream when he called your celebration. All of the floats contained giant presents because as the MC said, no celebration would be complete without presents. Inside each gift was a character. I forgot who they all were but I think there was Lumiere, Sebastian, Mr. Incredible, and a couple others. Then they sang and danced to another Hannah Montana song (is it sad I know that?!). Unfortunately, the parade got cut short because the sky was getting kind of dark.

They ended with “Celebrate You”, the theme song for to What Will You Celebrate? Hopefully we’ll get to see the whole thing sometime. I watched a video of it on youtube and it looks like it’s a lot of fun! Very similar to the Block Party Bash in that it has the crowd participation at the end.

When it was over, Dad asked if there was anything else we wanted to do and suggested the Laugh Floor. Emma and I agreed so back to Tomorrowland it was. Even though we don’t have any small kids in our family we still get a kick out of the show mainly because it can’t be scripted and each time you go it’s different. Yeah, they have some of the same sets but you never know how people will react to it. We only had to wait a couple of minutes before they opened the doors to the Monster world. Here’s another thing to look for in the Laugh Floor: on the left side of the holding area (before you go into the theater) there is a little case with newspaper reviews of the show. It’s kind of funny because there are some from Mike Wazowski’s parents, who of course give it rave reviews. Love those little bits of detail! So then it was time to enter the comedy club. There was this one lady who was just hilarious. She had to choose a number and then the monster was going to read her mind. So she picked her number and then shouted it out right away. Since he was going to read the lady’s mind, she had to pick another one. Again she just blurted it out. It was so neat because the monster was even bent over laughing…how do they match that to what’s really happening?! The next thing she had to do was put her fingers up to her head so it looked like she had antennae to transport the number to the monster. He told her to make a noise like a sheep or something…well, she took a big breath like she was all ready to and then just started laughing hysterically. OMG it was so funny…maybe you had to be there but it was great. At last we had gathered up enough laughter and the show was over.

The last thing we did before leaving was take the train from Toontown to Main Street.

There we did a little browsing in the Emporium. I saw this super cute t-shirt…it was light blue and had the retro Magic Kingdom logo/Mickey Mouse on it. They didn’t have my size and I stupidly didn’t bother asking if they had anymore. Needless to say I was a little bummed about that so I think I’m going to see if by chance my mom can pick it up when she’s down there over the weekend.

Then we said good-bye to the Magic Kingdom for the time being and headed back to the Wilderness Lodge for our afternoon break.

HHHHHHHHEYYYYYY...GET UUUUUUUUPPPPP...GET LLLLLLOOOOOOOOOUUUUDDD..WE'RE PUMPIN' UP THE PARTY NOW...:rolleyes1 Hope it gets in your head again. :rotfl2:

I can't wait to ride Space again either! I'm so excited to see the new changes. I know the lines are going to be CRAZY for it!

Thanks for laughing at the skipper's jokes on Jungle Cruise. You know I appreciated that. :)

YAY! Awesome update. I freak out at HM, too. Especially when the ride gets stuck. And I can't believe they sang "I'm Walking Right Down the Middle of Main Street USA"!! I seriously remember that from when I was REALLY little.

Don't worry, you might know Hannah Montana songs but I went to her concert LOL! Not this tour (I'm not really a Miley fan anymore) but the one where it was Miley "and" Hannah. Yeahhhh I'm 22 but whatever.

Also, the Celebrate You song makes me want to cry because it is just so cute. Sounds like Laugh Floor was hilarious- I love that! Sometimes I've had people who act too cool to play along and it just kills the mood!!

I can't wait for Space Mountain to open up! It's supposed to open Nov. 21 i think and we're going to be there December 1st so I hope everything goes as planned so Chris and I can ride it, new and improved! :woohoo:

"We're Walking Right Down the Middle of Main St. USA" was one of two songs that played OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER while I was on hold for 45 mins for my ADRs last month. Alllllllll day I had that song stuck in my head LOL

I loveeee the Move It Shake It Celebrate It parade! So great with the crowd interaction and dancing and singing. :thumbsup2

:rotfl::rotfl: As I was writing that update (and particularly the part about the parade) I definitely did have it in my head. And how you typed it out, LOL, now I can totally hear her singing it.

I really wonder how different it's going to be. I know the first time we went to Disneyland their SM was closed for refurb so I wonder if it'll be like that?? We thought the DL one was longer and faster but didn't have as many big dips. It was more hairpin turns. Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Yeah, I don't like it when it stops for a little bit. The other day I had to youtube that sing along and that part of it was on there! Ahhh memories. :goodvibes Here's the link...is this what you remember?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpSBYMMpPHc&feature=related

haha, that is funny! While we're confessing I have a couple Hannah Montana songs on my ipod.

Oh yeah, we've had that before too where people just sit there acting like they're too good to do anything.

Well if you do get on you'll have to tell us how it is!

LOL, that's great!

I am so bummed we didn't even get to see the crowd interaction part. :sad2:

Hmmm...this bit is awfully familiar to me...:rolleyes1
Did I ever mention I do a mean goat impression? :rolleyes1

GREAT pics of the parade! And thank you for the tip on the continued "What will you Celebrate?" theme with the birthday pass. I had heard about doing a day of community service and getting a free pass, but not the birthday promo continuing. I think I might need a trip in early June.

Loved your update. Great pictures too! One of these days I need to ride the Speedway.....never done that before.

Thanks! It helped that the floats actually stopped so it was easier to get good pictures. :thumbsup2

I saw that about the community service too. I think that sounds interesting. Wonder what the organizations will be that you can volunteer for.

Loved your update. Great pictures too! One of these days I need to ride the Speedway.....never done that before.

Thanks! You should do the speedway. It's fun and I like getting all the different views of the park you get driving around.

Another great update!!:thumbsup2

Wow! That's so great that the line for the speedway wasn't very long. It seems like every time we go even if it's in the morning, the line is always so long.:confused3

You got lots of great pictures at the Move it! Shake it! Celebrate it! Parade. We loved that parade!! It was so much fun, especially how they get everyone out in the street at the end dancing with the characters.--very cute!!:goodvibes

Love your Magic Kingdom pictures. We didn't get to the speedway, it looks so neat, I can't wait to finally ride it. Both days we were in MK, when were getting ready to ride it , it rained and was of course closed.

Yeah, we never wait very long for it...usually because we always go to Tomorrowland right away for Space Mountain. But we've seen the lines get pretty long! :scared1:

I am sooo bummed the stupid weather cancelled the end of it (even though it never did rain!). :sad2:

How did I forget this?! That's awesome. I love the threads of vintage Disney World pics from when it opened. It is crazy to see how much has changed! Aww I got a little tear in my eye for Walt just now. I wonder if he ever imagined this would become so awesome?

And yes, that is the sing a long I remember! My favorite sing a long was the Christmas one with the live action people (there's also an animated version). Wow those songs are awesome and my sister and I used to watch it over and over!

OK so between this being the anniversary of WDW and you posting the sing alongs from when I was little, I'm totally digging out and watching my old Disney vacation tapes!

In all honesty I wouldn't have remembered either...I actually got a message from a Disney group I'm in on facebook! I too wonder what Walt would think of WDW now. I bet he'd be very happy. :goodvibes:lovestruc

haha, I remember those too! I remember the one song Goofy sang...I think it was called "I'd Like to Have an Elephant for Christmas" or something like that. LOL! Dang I have sudden desire to watch all the old sing alongs. We owned a bunch of them! Here's something else for nostalgia:

That sounds like a great idea...it's always fun pulling out those old Disney tapes! :thumbsup2

Sarah,
I'll be back later to catch up!! I have been so busy with life and other things it's been crazy and I haven't had as much time for DIS.
