Wednesday March 21st
Well, after three years of impatient longing and waiting the day had finally arrived for our long awaited return to Florida!
We had taken our
furballs
to their kennels the day before so we took the opportunity to have a rare lie-in before our car arrived at 12 noon. As we were going for 3 weeks there wasn’t much difference between paying parking for that length of time or hiring a shuttle so we decide we’d go in style and chose the latter.
After a short break at Fleet, we arrived at the Sofitel at 2.15pm. I now lost one of my nine lives.
As I tend to do most of the planning for our hols, (DH just pays for it
) I keep all the paperwork in a large Tigger file. I had had a particularly vivid nightmare a couple of nights before that we arrived in Orlando without any of our documents and an empty Tigger file.
Just shows how stupid nightmares are as a) the Tigger file always remains at home and I use a thinner Piglet one for our travels and b) how did we get to Orlando without our passports?!
Consequently I had jokingly doublechecked and triplechecked that I had the Piglet file with all the necessary paperwork in my Sorcerer backpack which I don’t normally let out of my sight but decided to put in the luggage compartment of the vehicle. When the driver unloaded our luggage everything came out except my backpack.
I couldn’t believe it as I stared at the empty space in front of me ~ I knew I had put it there and was started to panic.
Then everyone started laughing as they were all in on it and the naughty driver produced it from where he had hidden it. Can’t think why everyone found it so funny, they are lucky it didn’t bring on a heart attack or a stroke, how funny would they have found it then!!
I needed a very stiff drink after that so we checked into our room, did twilight check-in and then had a meal (and my stiff drink) at Frankie and Benny’s.
It was a lovely meal ~ we only live 5 minutes from a Frankie and Benny’s at home but the portions here were much larger so really got us in the mood for all that Florida food!
After that we browsed the shops, then went back to our room and watched some TV before having an early night.
Thursday March 22nd
We had brought some cereal bars and cartons of juice for our breakfast which we had in our room, then we checked-out and took the monorail to the South Terminal for 8.30am to be greeted by utter pandemonium and total chaos.
Thank goodness we had done twilight check-in the day before.
Our flight was supposed to be delayed by an hour – but in the end it took off at 12.40pm instead of 11.15am, 1 hour 25 minutes late. It was a very good flight. Can’t remember what I had to eat, I think it was chicken risotto but it was quite nice. I watched Night at the Museum
Dreamgirls
and Borat.
We arrived at MCO at 5.20pm. Then we couldn’t get the luggage into the car! The attendant was really helpful and kept trying different models ~ I think we would have been OK if our cases had been soft as they would have squished in but there was nothing for it but to upgrade to a Dodge Caravan. In the end this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I did my back in and it was much easier for me having the higher seat.
We arrived at our hotel about 8pm, it looked very nice and we had a lovely large room but none of us were hungry and we were all tired so it was quick bath and straight to bed for all of us.
Tomorrow ~ first stop Magic Kingdom.
