Fun Suggestions for a day in Newport Beach?

My dh and I will be staying one night in Newport Beach to visit with friends before driving off to Palm Desert for 3 days. I used to live in both of those areas in my early twenties (going on 35 now!) so I need some help. We get in at 10:47am at John Wayne Airport and won't meet friends for dinner until after 5pm. Any suggestions for lunch? I just want to be prepared with information (like I am at Disney!) so anything you want to suggest would be awesome! BTW we'll be there a week from this coming Wednesday.
