FUN ON A BOAT - Podcast Cruise May 10-14 2009

Hi I’m Shelly.

Yes that is Cameron Mathison from AMC and DWTS. I met him (again) in November at SSW. It was a blast!!!

I’m 34 and live about an hour from the mouse!! (Port Orange, FL to be exact). I am currently back in school full time. I taught Kindergarten for a year before my position was cut and I found myself out of a job. It was not a good time. So I went back to school to change my career a little before going to grad school. I am currently working on a degree in medical transcritption. It is quite interesting and I can work at home which is a big plus!!! I do eventually want to go back to grad school and get a master’s degree in math education. But we’ll see.

Ok enough about me – now the real reason I’m here.

I am partaking in “FUN ON A BOAT” otherwise known as the Podcast Cruise on the Disney Wonder from May 10-14 2009. I may also add on a pre-cruise stay but I’m not sure yet. At first, I was going to go by myself but that changes, as you will find out later.

So that is a little about me and where I’m going.

A little bit of background on how I got here:

I joined the DIS boards in September of 2007. I lurked for a long time before I actually posted anything for a number of reasons. I have been on other boards and in chat rooms that have not been welcoming environments to say the least. This is the first board that I’ve felt comfortable enough to say anything more than Hi!! I’m actually a very quiet and shy person until you get to know me and then you’re fair game.

I mainly stay on the DIS Unplugged boards but I have been venturing onto other boards more recently – like this one. Jaime (who you will meet later) go me started on this board with her trip reports and I have been hooked ever since.

I didn’t start listening to the DIS Unplugged podcast until right after Bawb died which was in May of this year. Since then I have gone back and listened to all of the old podcasts and have caught up. This is the only podcast that I listen to because it is the only one that I have time to listen too and I think it’s the best!!

In January of this year, the crew announced they were organizing a cruise for their listeners on the Wonder in May 2009. When I heard about this several months later and actually started listening and getting to know the podcast crew, I immediately wanted to go but I was sure I couldn’t afford it being out of work. But thanks to a set of circumstances that came to me, I started to think that I could actually do this. I actually put in 3 requests before I put down a deposit. I was going by myself but I was going (my family are not big Disney people at all – I just don’t get it ). And then . . . .

For those of you who don’t know her, this is Jaime (Tiggerbell) who is now my roommate for my/our cruise.

How did we become roommates?

She advertised for a roommate (the above picture is one she used) and I was brave enough to accept. And I do mean brave!!!

I was going whether I had a roommate or not, but this has turned out sooooooo much better. Not only do I get my trip for half the price, but I get a wonderful new friend out of the whole deal. We have been emailing each other back and forth and have found we have so much in common its scary!!!

I have also read her trip reports and they are hysterical!! (I can’t promise mine to be as funny).

We have also had a chance to meet face to face when she was here recently on her semi-solo trip – (still waiting for the trip report Jaime). We met for lunch at the Boardwalk and had a great time talking and getting to know one another better. This is going to be an awesome trip!!!!!! Is it May?

This was us trying to figure out my camera. (it’s not actually my camera, but I take it when I go somewhere because I can’t find mine - did that make sense?) We were trying to figure out to set the auto because of Jaime’s new toy that I absolutely love. It a stick (I forgot the name of it) where you can put the camera on the end and then reach out and take pictures of yourself instead of having someone else do it. We are so taking this with us!!!!

Ah! We figured it out!!

IT was a blast getting to meet her face to face!! We are going to have such a blast!!!!

#1 - I take great pride in getting you over here to the Trip Report Boards - these are my peeps. Even if you did jokingly called it "The Dark Side" in your e-mail - but I believe that would actually be the Universal Board...

#2 - You really do love torturing me with that Cameron Matheson picture, don't you???

#3 - It's cruddy out here - cold and snowy - I'm in a really cruddy mood because of it... ask anyone who has had contact with me in the last 48 hours - I am not a plesant person right now... I'll be better in May. I'll actually be better Thursday night when my bonus check is handed over... of course, I'm handing it to Disney, but still...

#1 - I didn't mean the trip report boards was "the Dark Side" - I meant actually writing a trip report was bringing me over the the dark side.
