I'm trying to think of fun ways to celebrate my nieces 13th birthday while we are in WDW. I want to make it extra special since she will be away from her own family. We are starting the day with breakfast at Cape May Cafe. What else would make the day great?

I just asked dd12 for you, her response "mom I'd be at disney so it'd be all good".

I guess I would let her lead the day and just do what she wants to do.

That is exactly what I was going to say. Especially since she won't be with her family, she will feel really special getting to choose what to do. Let her pick the park, and other dining, rides, characters that she really wants to see.

Get her a birthday button, as character interactions will be great for her. They make a big deal about her birthday and she will feel super special.

My DD is turning 13 while we are at the World. Birthday button, and Wishes Dessert party. We are not getting a cake, as there's only three of us. I am going to let her pick a cupcake for a lunch treat. Maybe get her a gift card. My DD wants a pearl from Japan, so that is her present. I am also packing small gifts to give her and bought a happy birthday Minnie banner from Target, on the clearance, for a dollar, so I will hang it in our room on her bday.

How nice to treat your niece to vacation with you. That is a treat in itself.

Have a great time!

I was going to suggest pick a pearl too! My daughter loved this.

A lot of the settings are junky and gaudy (to me), but we did a very simple setting ... something like this:

The setting they sell has a little more detail than this (I think there may be some fluting on the bail), but it's still very simple and classic.

You can do either white gold or sterling ... we did the setting in white gold, thinking that the sterling could potentially discolor the pearl, but cut the price by getting a sterling silver chain.

It is so simple, elegant and pretty. Any time there's a special occasion, my daughter picks out her "Disney Pearl" necklace to wear.

We also let her do an identical necklace to give to her grandmother for Christmas, so they have matching necklaces.

I will say that even with doing the sterling silver chain, this was not cheap ... but I like that she has a substantial and lasting souvenir.

Order her a chocolate slipper dessert. If your only ADR is breakfast, then order it at breakfast. :) My daughter still talks about the one she had on her 9th birthday.

Lunch or Dinner at Planet Hollywood is an option. Just tell the waiter that it's her BDay and they'll recognize it on the big screen for everyone to see. We the here on my ds 13th BDay.

at DHS:
Ride Tower of Terror...13th floor ....you know, where the cable snaps and WHEEE the fun begins! Get the picture from the ride as a keep sake.

get 13 pressed pennies from wherever she chooses

Have her do the animation drawing, and remember to date it so she has her own keepsake she made

make a game out of who can find 13 hidden mickeys first

maybe make a point of how another "teenager" is in your group a lot :goodvibes

all free or very inexpensive ~ but all about her!

Love these ideas! Where can she do the animation drawing? She is a gifted artist, and would really enjoy this.

Hi
I made this "coupon" for her
If interested just post her first name as I don't post blanks.

Lots of locations to choose from

For my DD's bday, we took her to Beaches and Cream to have the Kitchen Sink for lunch. Along with the lights flashing, etc, they brought out balloons for her birthday. She LOVED it. And nothing's more decadent than ice cream for lunch :)

We also did the mermaid package at Pirate's League. Since her favorite character is Ariel, she was wildly excited. We followed it up with a meet with Ariel and Eric and then a late breakfast at the Castle.

If we ever make it back down for my DD's birthday, I'm totally doing this. It sounds right up her alley!

That sounds great, and we are staying at beach club villas too.

It was definitely worth it. And I was happy we ONLY had the ice cream. There's no way we could have eaten burgers as well. Plus, she was thrilled with the whole idea of ice cream for lunch. She used the big serving spoon to eat with and felt super special.
