Fun Family Tradition while Onboard

We have one that I love. We have gone with our big extended family, and every morning the older folks station a table outside near the buffet. We all know they will be there in the morning, so everybody stops by and we chat, mark navigators, and have coffee before breaking into smaller groups for the days activities.

We eat supper together in the MDR each night - with the exception of one adult night. I love hearing about everyone's day and enjoying the food together. Even though my kids have heard about other kids who can skip dinner and head to the club early, they know it's not a choice for them and so far they haven't complained.

On our Alaskan cruise last year, my 9-y-o and I would end the day with a trip to the pool deck to get hot chocolate and an ice cream cone. This year on the Fantasy it was too warm for cocoa but we still did the ice cream!

We have a large group of around 15 and our tradition is to go on deck early in the am, stake out our "area", get the towels all laid out, bring some extra flip flops to throw out on the chairs and head to cabanas for a long breakfast. It's so nice to have a spot to come back to and relax as the crowds really start getting heavy.

Two comments: we do a lot of fun stuff together on the cruises, but no "family tradition" and after reading these posts I am really regretting that; and Wow, this is making me long to be on a DCL cruise RIGHT NOW! I am feeling "homesick"

"I" have a tradition I do, deliberately, WITHOUT my family. On the last night, after I've packed, set the bags out, gathered the kids up from the kids club and gotten them to bed, I leave them with my mom to sleep and I go to the LAST movie showing in th BVT. When it's over I walk around the ship one last time...the lobby and the pool deck...usually pretty much have it to myself. Just enjoy my last moments of serenity before I return to normal life.

Hi,

We have a number of major traditions on our cruises. We have to eat at Parrot Cay for lunch right after we board the ship. (We have not been on the Dream or the Fantasy. Also we have not been on the Magic since she got Carioca's). We have to eat a order of Pluto's Dog House chicken strips at least one order a day.. We always go to the Adventure Away Sail Away Party. We love hearing the horn go off after the party. We usually get Pinocchio's Pizza as our late night snack. (around 10 PM or later).. At night and in my mom and I read the personal navigator frontwards and backwards to make sure we will not miss anything the next day My dad and I have to do the Mickey 200 where you race potatoes and carrots down a race track. Many times when we play bingo my mom and I have to get a an non-alcoholic smoothie. After doing this post, I am so hungry for DCL food!

This started off as my tradition when our daughter was younger but on the last few trips it has become a family thing.

On our last night I say "goodbye" to the ship. I start on deck 2 and walk every deck, pausing at my favorite parts of the ship. It's the last thing I do before heading to bed that last night.

I would love to know how hot it really is.

It's not going to burn your tongue in the morning, but it's definitely more than warm. The insulated carafe is VERY good.

That said, DS and DH don't even *move* when room service knocks. I'm already up, so I'm ready (and decent), and can answer the door quickly. If you've been leaving the room to get your coffee and coming back, you're probably already making as much noise as the room service person will in the morning.

Looking at some of these I get jealous. I'm the only one that drinks, so there's no sharing champagne etc. (and it gets old drinking alone) DH and DS can't have certain ingredients so having Mickey Bars or soft serve or any ice cream on the ship is right out. Even the cookies and milk thing...we rarely drink milk at home so it could result in stomach aches. Sigh.

Oh I cannot believe I forgot one of my favorites! DH and I never miss Jack Jack's baby race! Our kids think we are nuts, but we always get a good laugh.

I also like how most of the responses here include food! I guess I am not alone enjoying treats onboard that I do not normally eat at home. Dieting now so I can gain weight while onboard

After we board the ship and after lunch, I go downstairs and put cash on for the credit for our spending while the DW cleans the room from head to toe with stuff she carries on the ship. If I get back early and she is not done, I go on the balcony.

I eat Mickey Bar every Night with Dinner, plus another desert if I want! Main Dining Always!

Pizza or fries every night on deck watching PART of a movie, then it's back to the room to review the Navigator for the next day and watch a movie on TV.

We purchased the Disney Monopoly years ago and carry it on, play on the pool deck one 1st sea day right after lunch. Play till time to get ready for dinner.

On the 1st night at dinner I ask the server for a cheese plate with the bread for the following nights of the cruise.

Spend a minimum of 1 hour per day on the verandah. I do Sudoku or Kakuro Puzzles. If you haven't done Kakuro, google it!

I might think of some more......

It's great, the first night all the kids are looking at my Mickey Bar, and by the last night..... even the adults. I always make the wife look around me the first night and again on the last. My BIL has gone with us (and SIL) on 5 DCL cruises (yes they are GOLD now) and for deserts the CM's just learn do bring 2 of what I get. One for him and 1 for me, including at a minimum a Mickey Bar.

At least twice every cruise we like to get pizza and watch the latest Movie on the Big screen by the pool and just hang out... This year we are doing the Alaskan cruise so were hoping that its not too cold.
We also love ordering late night room service as if we didn't eat enough during the day....

I would strongly recommend carrying on a thermal blanket for the movie nights on deck. JIC!
