I think that's an oxymoron - but jsut wanna check & see if anyone has found any exercise they think is fun that I'm missing out on & need to try - I just can't get my fat rear doing anything! I HATE IT ALL!

ANd BTW it needs to be free 'cause I can't afford a gym membership

I'm in your boat, and what works for me is variety, variety, variety!

I found some good weight bearing calesthenics type exercises for free on Oprah.com, yoga videos on youtube.com, and I just bought some old Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies videos off eBay for silly cheap.

But my favorite thing is to stream some dance music, like Seal's first album, or Madonna's Confessions from a Dance Floor, and just dance for 20 minutes.

If I can't get motivated for any of that, I'll make myself walk in place and do some squats and toe raises while I watch the Price is Right (I'm always home that time of the morning).

I find having a routine time of day that I exercise is really key. Otherwise, I'll just put it off and forget about it all day until it's too late. Though, I have been known to do crunches and leg lifts at midnight to clear my conscience!

What motivates me is knowing if I don't do it, next Disney vacation my legs and feet aren't going to be able to get me through the walking and standing I want to do!

I have found I really like Kickboxing type stuff...I bought some DVDs that have 10 minutes exercises too those are pretty easy. The thing is don't get discouraged, I kept doing them even if I had a hard time (I'd walk in place while they did the hard stuff lol) and soon they became really easy. Now when I do them I'm like..that's it? LOL

Try some videos and who knows maybe you'll find something you like. I never had any clue that I'd like kickboxing.

I LOVE to kickbox and am very fond of the elliptical and weight lifting. Tae Bo is fun and Kathy Smith has a couple of good kickboxing dvd's. The firm is enjoyable too because it does a couple minutes of cardio, then a couple minutes of weight lifting and then repeats. It goes quickly with all the variation.

Fun is kinda subjective. I myself, enjoy Leslie Sansone in home walking / walk away the pounds workouts. I also enjoy getting out and walking in nature/hiking. I dont enjoy dance type workouts as they confuse me and get me all tied up. If you are a Netflix memeber they have bunch of different workouts that you can try out.

Well, this is certainly not a new suggestion, but I find that I enjoy aerobic dancing. Lately, I've been adding in some stretching (to slower music) and some resistance bands to make my aerobics into more of a complete work-out.

I also use the treadmill while watching my favorite TV show (Smallville - I'm just finishing up season 6 right now.) I don't let myself watch it unless I'm walking.

As my birthday gift, DH is building me a "walkstation" -- a computer at our treadmill so that I can walk while I surf the web. He got it up and running, but so far there isn't any sound (need to buy speakers) plus he hasn't figured out a place to put the keyboard. There's a place to use a mouse, though, so I can lurk on forums while I use the treadmill, but I don't have a way to post yet. The idea is to walk slowly while websurfing -- it would be hard to websurf while jogging or walking quickly. Now, if I ever get to the point where I will only let myself websurf while I'm on the treadmill, I'll probably be walking 10 hours a day! :rotfl2:

Oh, yeah, and if I could just move to Disneyworld, I'd probably swim for hours each day. Especially if I were staying at Beach Club!

I just make a list of my favorite songs and put them into my CD player and get dancing. I have lost quite a bit of weight just getting up and dancing in my living room. I dance while I do chores too so its a double whammy.

I always thought that at the gym they should have a separate room with a disco ball and a stereo that plays some good dance music that we all really enjoy and have a free style dance class. Just a bunch of ladies or a mixed group who can get together and boogie for an hour an a half. That way we all go at our own pace and energize ourselves while building up confidence in front of other people.

Try renting a bunch of different types of exercise tapes and then buy the ones you love! I'm a huge fan of Billy Blanks (kickboxing) and pilates. You could also try Zumba, which is latin dancing. If you have satelite tv, the fitness channel has great workouts you can tape and do at your convenience; they had a great ballet one.

I hate exercising, too, but I hate being "fluffy" more. :goodvibes

I usu. walk two miles a day with my dogs, 7 days a week (one in the morning and one in the evening). I might add another mile 1-2 days a week depending on how much time I have (my schedules a bit full right now with working full-time and school 3 nights a week). I also ride my stationary bike 3 days a week for 40-45 minutes - about the length of an hour-long television episode without the commercials (I have several series on DVD).

Just wanted to throw it out there that most exercises aren't hardly as boring if you have an IRL buddy to do them with. It also makes it go faster.

For those of you saying you can't afford a gym membership, you might want to check around at your local gyms. I started working at my gym in October doing daycare for two hours a week and in addition to a little paycheck (that covers DH's membership), I get a totally free membership for myself. I also know folks who clean or work the front desk for a small amount of time each week and have a similar arrangement. It is so worth it for myself. Heck, half the time, I don't even have any kiddos to watch. LOL! I keep busy, though, and help fold towels, vacuum, clean windows, etc. However, I must say that it's a pretty easy gig that gives me so much more back in return.

If you already have a game system I really enjoy "playing" Dance Dance Revolution.

I enjoy playing this game as well. The kids like it for the compition so after competing with them so many rounds the time flies by without me even knowing it does. :thumbsup2

Not sure where you are located, but I am a tennis fanatic! I just love, love, love it. And it I just started two years ago...and I was overweight when I started. Through our town parks & rec program, it is only 30 -40 for like 8 weeks of clinics and court time. Very social...met tons of friends this way, and very good exercise.
