Apart from the character meals can anybody tell me about other restaurants that do activities/fun things with the children over meals. We will be in WDW Oct 1-16. There is plenty of info about the character meals and we plan to do 4-5 of these (Liberty Tree Tavern, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickeys, Breakfastosaurus, Maybe Akershus.) What else could we consider.

cheers from Aus.

It's not exactly an activity, but DD always enjoys watching Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. He's a robotic alien lounge singer who plays music, sings, and tells bad jokes. DD can sit and eat happily and quietly for quite a while, which gives me some relaxing time.

Here are some fun kid programs:

Children's Activity Centers
Children ages 4-12 enjoy computer games, Disney movies, dinner and snacks in an environment created just for them — while you have an adult's night out for yourself!
Available at:
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
Disney's Beach Club Resort
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney's Polynesian Resort
Disney's Wilderness Lodge
Disney's Yacht Club Resort
Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort
Walt Disney World Swan Resort
The Villas at Disney's Beach Club Resort
The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Plus these three magical activities at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa:

Grand Adventures in Cooking
Have a delicious time painting an apron, decorating your very own chef's hat and whipping up tasty treats. (For children ages 4-10)

Wonderland Tea Party
Join Alice and her curious friends for lunch, cupcakes and, of course, a spot of tea. (For children ages 4-10)

Disney's Pirate Adventure
Don yer garb and set sail to exotic ports-of-call in search of buried treasure. (For children ages 4-10)

HTH!

Prime Time Cafe in MGM is always a hit with our kids. If you don't know about it, its set up like a '50's house, very interactive with the servers and TV's show clips from '50's shows. The sit down restaurant in the Mexico pavilion at Epcot is another favorite because there is a large market (set up to look like an open-air market) as you enter, restaurant in the back, and behind the restaurant a boat ride that's a bit like "Small World" (although as I recall the kids' menu was more limited than some other places when we were last there). If you want a more expensive/nicer meal, Coral Reef in Epcot is also interesting because there is a giant (as I recall floor-to-ceiling) aquarium.

My kids enjoyed Sci-Fi in MGM. They didn't eat a thing (typical), however, they did enjoy the atmosphere and their glow in the dark ice-cube drinks. This is the only restaurant they specifically asked to retun to on our next trip to WDW. And we did a lot of character meals, they seemed to enjoy this more. They are 4 and 6.

My older daughters' favorite restaurant is the Biergarten in Germany (Epcot). They actually cried to go back a second time when we gave them a choice of ANYWHERE to eat our last dinner. The food is AWESOME and there is live entertainment. They have people from the audience come up and polka, do the chicken dance, they play music like the Beer Barrel Polka and Adelwiesse(sp?)etc....FUN! One guy plays cowbells, another guy plays this huge horn that my girls really get a kick out of. We love it and go there on every trip which is at least once a year. :cool1:

Edited to add that this is a buffet which is always a plus with our hard-to-please girls! :rotfl:

Our DS12 got up and rolled the coconut w/the broomstick at O'Hana's this past Oct

Aside from the character meals, our kids (girls, 3 and 7) had the
most fun last summer at Ohana's, Whispering Canyon, and
the Coral Reef (lunch). pirate:

Not sure of your childrens' ages, but our 2yo DS waved at the monorail every time in went by during our dinner at Concourse Steakhouse.

Same here. My boys (9 & 5) love the Sci Fi! They do eat (some) but also love the milkshakes here, and the atmosphere is so cool! They especially liked being the front seat together while mom and dad were in the back!

They ask all the time if we can eat there again! :flower:

My DD7 loves 50's Prime Time Cafe and Rain Forest Cafe!

My kids really enjoy Sci-Fi and Ohana. They also like the children's activities at the GF such as Wonderland Tea Party , Pirate Cruise and this year they are trying the Grand Adventures in Cooking also.

Thanks to all for the great ideas. Lots to consider.
Ohana and Sci Fi definitely, I think, maybe.
Like all else at WDW. So much to d. So little time

cheers from Aus

Just another option to add--

My son just loves Pizza Planet in MGM. The food is alright as far as pizza goes, is a great break from the weather, enjoys the arcade & atmosphere, and a bit less $$ than a sit-down restruant.
