Full size crib question

My DS has basically never slept in a pack and play...we've tried a few times and no dice. The first time we went to WDW, we stayed at BWV and requested a full size crib. When we got to our room, we didn't have the crib, but we called mousekeeping and were told that they wished people couldn't request them because they have SO FEW of them. They said they would look around and see what they could do. Well, they managed to find one and we were set for our trip.

We are going again and staying at BCV. We again are requesting a full size crib. I am starting to get nervous that maybe it was just a fluke that we got one. Have you ever requested one and never gotten one? I am not sure what we would do as I say my DS doesn't seem too hot on them.

Just wondered what other's experiences were with this. Thanks!

This is our first time to WDW - but we've gone other places and gotten stuck with a pack-n-play, and our DS is the same way as yours. We're going to Nick Hotel next week and specifically requested a crib, but we went ahead and wrote down the number for a crib rental service in Orlando. The service is $77 for the week, but they deliver, setup and take down. If BWV says they don't have a crib, I'd at least try to have them pay for the rental one. If they won't do that, I think the $77 is worth it for the week of better sleeping. If you're interested, the crib service I found on google is shown below. It's called A Baby's Best Friend.

We couldn't get one at Vero, BCV, AKL or BWV...
My sister and I are emailing abbf.com this time

We rented from A Baby's Best Friend earlier this month. The crib was very nice. They did not set it up or take it down though as a pp said. They delivered it to the luggage room of the resort. We had bell services bring it up to us. It was very easy to setup - maybe 10 minutes. At the end of the week we had to take it apart and have bell services take it back to the luggage room.

For set up and take down try Children's Furniture Rental (at least they set up and took down last May when ABBF wasn't doing it anymore). They don't have a web site but can be reached at 407-522-0233. The owner's name is Roy and it is pretty likely that you'll talk to him. I got the info on CFR from a DISer who recommended them after being given their number by the staff at Grand Floridian. We were pleased with the quality of the crib and the service.

I like the fact that ABBF has a website with photos of all the items they offer. To me that helps show that a business is in it for the long haul. We have used ABBF numerous times in the past and have ALWAYS been pleased with their professionalism, quality, cleanliness, and service.

One of the reasons I prefer to set up my own crib (and it is easy as KristiMc stated) is one year we arrived at our room and the crib was set up for us. The room we were assigned was flawed and we switched right away, but the crib was not able to be moved right away. (I would have done it myself but it was a different type then, maybe 5 or 6 years ago.) Now they are very easy and I can do it in about 5 minutes after we make sure our room is fine.

We always get several items form them and it's always wonderful having our things waiting for us there. ABBF is definately a trip saver! :cheer2:

Hmm...so should I just go ahead with the rental? What if I try my chances at BCV and then find I have no luck? How quickly can either crib rental deliver? Do they have any kind of timeframes?

Last time we got to WDW, DS had a long flight and was really really ready for a nap. We spent alot of time monkeying around - mostly because our room wasn't ready until AFTER 4pm, and we arrived there at 2pm. It was not a great way to start the vacation.

Thanks all for the posts...this has been very helpful.

Thanks for setting me straight on the setup / teardown. When I read the sight quickly, it said delivery and pickup and I assumed the setup / teardown would be included (that's how it worked with the Myrtle Beach services we got). Anyway - if it's like those in Myrtle Beach, there's a picture on the bottom that tells you how to assemble... piece of cake...

I was not happy with ABBF. DS did not use the crib we paid for because the bedding was heavily scented. We use unscented detergent and softener at home. They came to get the crib early but would not give us any refund. I would not recommend them.

Disney Panda, not to be unfeeling, but what did you want them to do? They are a business, and every time we have used them they go out of their way to make it VERY CLEAR that they are not a standby service, and that once the equipment is delivered there can be no refunds. I understood that going into it, and any professional business cannot stay in operation if it is otherwise.

Can you imagine, say, if they delivered 10 cribs in one day to various hotels, and 8 of those 10 people, (or even 2 or 3) decided for whatever reason once they arrived that they did not want the things and were given a full refund? A business would stay in business about a week. From what I understand, ABBF has operated since 1998.

Did you specifically request unscented bedding? I ask because we did. And received it. We knew that our grandson was sensitive to that sort of thing, and made arrangements. Just something to think about.

I am old(er), ya know? So I have seen a lot in my years, and have owned a couple of (sucessful) businesses. I don't see ABBF at fault here. I highly recommend them from the numerous experiences with them.

:duck:

I have to agree with DisneyGrandParents - I would never actually travel without DD's own bedsheets and bumper - just as a nice home-like touch for her. Good idea about asking for unscented linens in advance though. Sorry you were unhappy Disney Panda.

I just got back from BCV and upon arrival called the front desk for two cribs and both were brought up within minutes. The pack and play is to small for my children as well.
No charge for them and no problem getting them.

I did bring his sheets but the mattress still had an overpowering smell. Waste of money for us.

We have always used ABBF. I love the way the sheets smell (DOWNY?) They are soft and Disney Themed. We have never had anything but EXCELLENT service from them. We even traveled down the day after one of the big hurricanes and never, ever expected them to deliver the crib as roads were closed, electric lines were down no flights in or out as the airports were closed (we were driving in from Vero). People were without phones, electricity etc. But when we arrived the crib was there. We even had a call (Cell?) from the owners just making sure we got it. GREAT!!!! Never any problems. The mattress we have always gotten from them have been plastic. I don't see how it could really have a smell Especially if you put your sheets on it? We have always received a great clean new looking mattress. I reccomend them 100%.
We got a full sized crib from the Dolphin once and it was terrible. The mattresss sagged and it didnt fit properly so we called ABBF and they delivered one. We have gone with them ever since.
The pack and plays from the hotels are hit and miss. Once we got a very nice one and once we got one with mold and dirt all over it. We now rent one of those from ABBF also. I know it is going to be clean and fresh.

Us too. Our last trip was in Oct. and we had no problem getting a crib. Just called Mousekeeping and they wheeled it right up. Nice because it does have wheels--you can just push it around. It did have a sheet but no blankets so keep in mind that you definitely should bring your own blanket.

I would keep ABBF phone number handy but take my chances at the hotel. Why pay for one if you don't have to? :confused3 JMO.

I just wanted to add that its possible that Home Away From Home resorts have more of the regulat cribs than a standard resort.Mousekeeping at AKL told me that most resorts on get 1 or 2 of those cribs for the entire resort and they cant be prereserved. So it can be hit or miss.HAFH resorts offer highchairs and the like as well so i think your more likely to get one ther than anywhere else.

ABBF states on their website that each item is thougroghly sterilised after each rental ....perhaps that was what created the scent? If so then i guess its better than having a dirty mattress!

Not to be extremely cheap, but I think we might try our chances in getting the crib from mousekeeping. However, if we are out of luck, can we call abbf that day and get a crib? How long do you think it takes? Thanks all for your posts...this has been really helpful.

We received a full size crib at BC last year. I had asked for a PNP but they were out so I got a crib. The PNP's are more requested since they take up less space. No charge. just call housekeeping when you get to your room adn they'll bring one right up.

Very easy.

I know this thread is about cribs, but I might have a pack-n-play solution... Toy-R-Us/Babies-R-Us sells a quilted pack-n-play matress pad that you put on under the sheet. It's not very thick, but it was enough padding for DS to be comfortable on. He wouldn't use the pnp before the matress pad.
