Ummm....Isn't that what you just did, give a response?
I understand why full frontal nudity is not allowed on the Dis. It is a site owned and run by someone else, who gets to make up the rules. If we want to play than we follow those rules. And I am happy for them, as it allows some organization and consistancy. Nudity doesn't belong here anymore than public executions, video of liposuction proceedures, or the conversion of every thread into a battle of religious vs intellectual thinking.
First does an AD campaign with nudity bother me? No way! If you are not interested in seeing this AD than don't buy a magazine which would display it. There isn't much chance you will stumble across it in Better Homes and Gardens. Besides nudity has been allowed in European magazine ads for awhile now. Ever buy a European Cosmopolitan magazine? I have. Granted no full frontal male nudity has probably been seen before, but so what? Nudity is such an ambiguous thing when it comes to public acceptance. It is ok in
National Geographic, Art Museums, Discovery Channel shows about 3rd world nations, and shows about baby birth, but add the least bit of sexuality to it and people run to their Bibles and Congressmen. This isn't some add campaign that little Bobby and Suzy are likely to see in their Scholastics magazine. It is geared towards adults. If you are not adult enough to understand that the human body was made naked before people manufactured clothing to put onto it than maybe you should be reading Scholastics. Plus having the picture available on the internet is nothing more of a parental challenge than keeping your child off internet porn sites. Naked does not equal pornography.
Second is an ad with full frontal nudity a good thing? Who cares. It isn't bothering me. Is this ad campaign likely to encourage me to purchase this cologne? Not likely, but then again, neither is the ads for CK jeans with the anorexic sad looking models. Do I own CK jeans? Yes, but b/c I like them and wanted them. Not due to an ad campaign. This YSL cologne would be no different in my opinion.
Like I said, this ad doesn't bother me. I also totally understand that the Dis is no place for nudity. Personally I wouldn't want to see nudity here. If I had any desire to ogle nude bodies on the internet than I am sure I could find a place with very little effort. But that does not mean that I run and hide from nudity behind some thin shield of co-called moral superiority.
Why are threads that deviate from the list of Christian approved topics, automatically equated with "junior high school" behavior. Is it not possible that intellectual discussion could happen outside the realm of the divine?
