Today started a little earlier than normal, with us having to get up for our character breakfast this morning. We had reservations at Artist Pointe for breakfast with Pooh and Gang. We only had a very short wait, and were seated. Much to our surprise and delight, both Tigger and Eeyore stopped by our table almost immediately. The food was great, and service excellent. Pooh stopped by our table a little while later, just after I got my second small plate of breakfast.
After breakfast we jumped in the van and headed out to the Animal Kingdom. We got there about an hour after it opened, again parking relatively close and surprised that everyone was taking the tram being parked so close. Anyway, right after walking through the front gate, we met up with a bunch of characters doing pictures and autographs. We saw Baloo, Minnie Mouse, Chip, and Daisy. Chip was hamming it up with Daisy as he didn't really have anyone waiting in line for him. We got the signatures, and heading into the kingdom looking at the birds and other animals in the 'jungle' before we got to the bridge. Checking the schedule, we headed over to the Lion King show and walked right in. We sat in the Giraffe section, and I video taped it, so I didn't take a lot of still pictures. Afterwards, we jumped across the park to the Tarzan Rocks show. If you have not seen it, that show was about the best live action show I have ever seen. Of course, I took a ton of pictures so you can click this link to check them out. It would help to listen to the soundtrack of Tarzan while you look at these. Turn it up LOUD.
From there, we went for lunch which was blah, more cheeseburgers, but Gael had a nice sesame chicken salad. We walked around a while trying to help Brittany fall asleep. That didn't work, but I got some good pictures on the jungle trek. Just after that, while I was waiting for Gael in the bathroom, a cast member came up and commented on my Discovery Cove hat (which has gotten LOTS of comments) and told me she also worked at Discovery Cove as a photographer. She was in the Animal Kingdom just taking pictures of 'things'. Must be nice to walk around taking pictures of Disney and getting paid for it. After Gael came back and we compared notes, we think she might even have been our photographer for our dolphin encounter back in August 2000. Cool!
Being in the back of the park, we walked up and onto the Killamanjaro safari - we walked right on. I ended up trading pins with a kid in the very short wait we had before the truck came. It was a very nice family from Michigan(?). Brittany really enjoyed the safari, and we got to see lots of animals, including 'Rafiki' - a baboon(?) that looked like Rafiki. Brittany really liked the bumpy ride and looking around for more animals for us.
After the safari, we went on Rafiki's Conservation Station ride. Brittany really didn't seem to get into this place, except for the area where you brush the goats. Pocohantas and Miko were there but Brittany also wouldn't go anywhere near them, continuing her tradition of not wanting to go anywhere near the face characters. We blew through this area pretty quickly, and headed out of the park right afterwards. It was getting close to when we needed to meet for the fireworks cruise I found on the DIS.
We ran back to our room, changed, and grabbed a quick bite at the Roaring Fork before heading out to the marina for our cruise. We met Lisa Rodriguez and her husband Al (the birthday boy), her kids, and her mom(?). Paul McGregor and his wife Amy were also on the cruise. We all crammed into the front of the boat cause our driver Jack was such a quite talker, Paul and Amy couldn't hear him from the back. It almost seemed like we were going to tip the boat over. The cruise was great, the company awesome, and I'd do it again in a minute. The fireworks from the lake were just amazing. Thanks Lisa! See our pictures here of the cruise.
It's supposed to rain tommorrow, so we have a day planned at the Kennedy Space center.
