So I've promised the families that if we get married in WDW that we would have another reception back home so that everyone could be a part of it.
For those of you (or anyone really) who have had a reception back home after the wedding, did you wear your dress and your groom his tux? Did you serve wedding cake?

I am trying to get a feel for what this reception will be like. And what I should plan for.

Thanks in advance :flower:

HI Laura,

We didn't have an at home reception ~ but I know of many who did. I think it varies depending on the tone you want for the reception at home.

Are you thinking a BBQ at a park? A reception in a ballroom? A casual dinner party at home?

Depending on what you and your FH want ~ will help you decide what to wear! :D

We're planning an at-home reception for when we return (probably the following month). We were just going to do a backyard bbq, but my mom wants a full-out reception-which she is paying for. I'm going to wear my dress, but I don't think FH is wearing a tux (probably a suit, though). We'll have dinner, dancing, and a cake (my aunt makes wedding cakes, so this won't cost me anything). It's going to be just like a "normal" reception. We're going to play the (home)video of our ceremony.

Hi! We had an intimate in July 2004 at the Polynesian. Since we had a casual wedding, we had a very casual at home reception. We had it at a banquet hall, DH wore his wedding attire (white button down shirt and linen pants) and I wore a tropical outfit. Everyone had a blast and we had no regrets about me not wearing my dress again.

We had a home reception 6 weeks after the wedding. I wore my dress but Rick didn't wear a tux, he wore a nice pair of pants and silk shirt. We had a buffet catered (fantastic), DJ and Mom and I made wedding cookies, no cake. It was a great time.

We had only immediate (10 people) at our WDW wedding and we decided to have a huge at home reception the Saturday following the week we got back. We did wear our wedding attire, had a cake, a dj, and it was catered.

If I could do it over again, I probably would have had a more casual reception. We spent a lot of money on the reception and I think guests would have been just as happy without the whole big thing. I love my dress, but after wearing for the MK PHoto Shoot and the wedding, I wasn't real excited about getting back into it.

We had a casual at home reception about a month after our custom wedding. We had about 125 people at a large restaurant with a few menu choices. I wore my dress - mainly for my grandma who was not able to travel to our wedding, and Mike wore a suit. We were the only really "dressed up" people there, but it was a great time! We almost did an outdoor BBQ, but the weather was too warm for many of my older relatives - however, I probably would have dressed down if the event were outdoors.

We had a custom wedding at Disney for about 40 people. A few months after we came home, we had a reception for our friends & family who didn't come - we had about 100 people. We did rent a hall, but we kept it casual. I wore a white summer dress and my husband dressed nice, but not a suit. We showed our wedding video during dinner, and then there was a lot of dancing. We did get a cake, but not a wedding cake. We had the white chocolate cake topper at our Disney wedding, and had brought that home, so we used it at this reception. After the cake was eaten, we used the castle as a "wishbone" (each of us grabbed a tower and pulled). We then finished breaking it apart, and gave everyone a piece of it.
