Staying at Ft Wilderness cabins with 11 year old son at the end of June before Disney parks reopen. Plan to swim, explore the resort, and eat at Disney Springs.

For our splurge, would you:
A. Rent a golf cart for the 3 nights we’re there (We have never been there. It looks huge but I wonder if there will be enough to do to justify the cart for 3 days.)
or
B. Go to Seaworld for a day (My son loves coasters and we’ve never been. We would get tickets and either the fast pass or unlimited dining option too.)

They are about the same cost.
Thanks!

I assume you don't have a car. That made a big difference in our stay as we could jump in the car to go do other things on property. We were also close to the pool and did not go to any other areas. Personally I would go to Sea World for the new experience. If you plan and doing a lot of looking around Ft. Wilderness. Maybe renta cart for one day.

I can't speak to how large FW is, but I know there is an internal bus to service the resort so at least there's an alternative if you don't get the golf cart. Also, without knowing anything else, I would mention that the amount of walking you'll be doing will be considerably less since you won't be going to WDW parks. If you're both able-bodied, walking the resort might not be so bad. Personally, I'd be willing to hassle with the internal bus or even just walk it in order to have a fun day at Sea World. The 11 year old will likely remember the day at Sea World, but likely would not appreciate the convenience of the golf cart as much as an adult would.

Just to give you an estimate of size, the Settlement and Outpost are about 1 mile as the crow flies. I love FW and usually enjoy having the gof cart, but sometimes we only rent one for a one or two days if we are going to spend all day at the resort. That said, we do not always rent for the entire trip. Instead we would rent for the days we actually would be at the resort all day.

I would probably do Seaworld, which means you would only need to walk/bus for a couple days.

zemmer,

I'm the biggest FW homer you'll ever find.

You might choose the golf cart if it was Christmas or close to Halloween and you might use the cart to loop around the campground to see the various decorations. That would be worth it. Or if you used the cart each morning and night to spare you the internal FW bus ride to get to the bus/boat transporation to the parks, that might be worth it.

But in June with no special decorations at the Fort (and a child of prime roller coaster years) and no open Disney parks I would say spend the money in the other theme parks. It's been a long time since I've been to SeaWorld but go for it. :thumbsup2

Have a good time. Hopefully the crowds (at FW and SW) will be low for you to maximize your relaxation and vaction.

Agree with PPs. I always tell people to rent the cart at FW, but no, not if you are not rushing to ADRs and rope drops. The internal bus system will get you there. Or, as one noted, feet that aren't sore from being in a park all day can walk the Fort most likely. Enjoy!

For sure SeaWorld!! We actually love walking Fort Wilderness. It's so peaceful and beautiful! Some of my sons favorite memories are walking to the pool from the cabins and spotting the birds, lizards and frogs along the way. One day we found a bunch of pinecones shaped into a hidden mickey along the path.

If it were me and the parks were not open I would do both 😁. I might even throw in a trip to Universal.

Oh, I would love that! But I have Disney tickets I’ll have to use later this year, so this is just a bonus trip that I need to keep relatively cheap. I wish Universal was as cheap as Seaworld!

True! Universal is not cheap.

Sea World is so much fun and their front-of-the-line passes are very reasonable. (I see that they even have June & July tickets for under $60/day right now, if you purchase them before Sunday.)
