Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere.

Several months ago there were rumors of a new DVC resort roughly on the site of River Country. Stage 1 was supposed to be closing the nearby horse barn, which is still there.

Is that plan dead?

Nothing new on that one. However, if other reports are right, that one is on the back burner because the next DVC looks like it will be at Grand Floridian.

Was this announced and it is official?

Because today I just spoke to the CM that sold us the DVC in April and he told me there would not be a Grand Floridian DVC because anyone that could afford the points to stay there could afford a night or 2 by paying cash. Also he said they don't want to add another monorail DVC right now since BLT was just added. I hope this isn't correct and that they do build one here. I would love to stay there.

CMs are not known for being great sources on knowing where the next DVC will be.

All talk of future DVCs are speculation.

There appears to be signs of construction at both Ft. Wilderness and at the Grand Floridian. If that means DVC is anybody's guess.

I'm not willing to pay $140+ / point for anywhere!!

GFV has not been announced and is certainly not official. If it's anything like BLT, they'll build it all the while denying that it even exists! :lmao:

That's what I was going to say, it will be announced right around the time the building is topped off. I think DVC has to make a move soon or they will have nothing on WDW property to sell. Figure it can take a couple of years to build. My bet is they will renovate some current GF rooms to DVC like they did with AKL.

While I think it would be nice to have DVC at the Grand Floridian, I think everyone is going to lose their shorts when they see a per-point price on the GF. If Bay Lake Tower is or is going up to $140/pp - just imagine where Disney's "Flagship" resort will come in on a per point price scale....
$150?
$160?

The Grand Floridian is a conference hotel - it's the location of the wedding pavilion - it has more table service restaurants than any other resort on property - I just seems that there is already a lot going on at the GF, and adding Villas into the mix is only going to increase the foot traffic at the resort as well as the vehicle traffic.

I think the GF is a beautiful resort hotel, but I'm not in love with it. It lacks a real theme - in the same way for me that Saratoga Springs lacks a real theme.

We already own at Bay Lake - so we wouldn't be interested in owning at another Monorail resort - plus BLT is more our style!

They will have SSR for sale forever. It is a tough sell at $99 per point when you can get it resale for a little more than half that.

Wow, I cannot believe SSR is a tough sell at 99 per point. When we bought into it, we then told a friend about the 99 per point and she bought into as well. She already owns at BLT, AKV, OKW and SSR and has been a DVC member for over 15 years and she couldn't believe how cheap. I guess you learn something every day.

Disney can sell ice cubes to Eskimos. If they build it, people will buy. Not announcing the project only adds to the speculation and excitement. If there wasn't a law against it, Disney would be selling GF units now and many would buy just to get on the Founders list.

Maybe it is just a tough sale to me, but I cannot justify buying SSR for $99 per point when it is selling in the mid fifties on the resale market. For that matter AKV is in the same boat as SSR as far as direct price vs resale.

I think as DVC started building the resorts larger and larger, it lost the intimate feeling that Beach Club and Villas at Wilderness Lodge have.

I really wish we owned at VWL, but the shorter life of the contract was a bust for us.

So we now own 4 resorts, and have no plans to add on. We don't know what to do with all the points we have now! But that's due to buying a loaded contract, with banked points, and having holding account points for this year due to a cancelled trip from a death in the family.

I'm sure we will figure out what to do with the extra points! HAHA :)

I think what will really knock everyone's socks off is the points price per night.

They are not going to make SSR their sales focus again. They need a new "wow" resort to draw people in to take the tour. I don't think Hawaii is going to be a big draw for people on the east coast.

I will be taking a walk by in July to see if there are any new stakes or activity. I really do not expect to see them do anything overt until BLT is sold out.

We biked around the back side of River Country yesterday. Absolutely nothing happening.

:confused3 His statements actually makes no sense. BLT is almost completely sold out (by the end of the summer) and then they have no new WDW DVC resort to sell. BLT is currently going for a not so small fortune so they definitely learned there is big money in a monorail resort DVC. Lastly there is no correlation between wanting/willing to pay cash rack rates to paying for DVC. I would never pay cash rack rates for GF or CR but had no problems laying out $40k for DVC. Remember he wants to sell points now, not down the road. So he (imho) was feeding you FUD. The next one will be either at FW or GF. Most likely GF as they could make more money from this location.

No, but if you add up several planning documents filed with various state and county agencies, it certainly seems to be happening, and it looks like it will be DVC. We are starting to get to the physical-things-are-happening stage. Remember, though, that nothing is in stone until walls go up, and sometimes not even then.

I dis agree the price per point will not change, it will be a point per night that will be higher.

Currently, Disney has an active project call the East Parcel Development Project that involves the Fort Wilderness area. Over the past few months, Disney has filed for, and received, permits from the South Florida Water Management District to relocate the Stables and a dining pavilion and ancillary buildings from one part of FTW to another.

I have not noticed anything lately that would indicate that Disney is developing a resort at the old River Country site.

Hi, If GF is going to become a DVC resort I SO WISH they would announce by the end of September. That is when my DH turns 60 and he just LOVES staying at the GF, so some add on points would be a perfect Birthday gift!! :goodvibes Joan
