Could somebody please tell me about the Fort Wilderness campfire? Is it fun? What age kids are usually there? How crowded is it? How much interaction do the kids get with Chip and Dale? This one has never crossed my mind before, but DD who will be 3 yrs 10 months on our trip has suddenly become obsessed with wanting to roast marshmallows for the 1st time. Sorry if this has been asked a bunch before. I tried to search the disboards for some answers before posting, but all I've gotten all day when I've tried is "searching has been disabled". I hope that is not permanent!

It's a campfire/sing-a-long/movie.

Starts out with fires in the firepits. You can buy s'more packages, complete with sticks at the Chuckwagon.
There is someone from Disney that comes and leads a sing-a-long. This is fun. We always enjoy ourselves. While the sing-a-long is going on, Chip and Dale come out and walk around. You are able to take pictures with them. I can't remember if they sign autographs or not but we usually don't bring our book for this event.

The 'munks then leave, sing-a-long finishes and a Disney movie begins. It's a lot of fun. It is FREE!! (well except for buying the s'more kit) And we love the Fort.
Kids of all ages come. You will probably see younger kids but my DD is 9 and still loves it. It depends on the time of the year for the crowd. We went over Memorial Day weekend one year and it was PACKED!! We went the last week in August and it was empty. Some parents bring their own chairs but the wooden benches are comfortable to me. Lots of parents bring their own adult beverages as well.
There is always a listing of the current month's movie on the Camping Board. Hope this helps!

I'm going to move this over to our campers board, where you'll get lots of great info about this.

My 4 year old really enjoyed it. Definitely bring your own s'mores and stick to save money. Get there early or you will have to sit in the bleachers. Make sure you are ready to take pictures when Chip and Dale come around because they move fast. The movie is real fun even for the adults just make sure to check the movie schedule to see one you like because they are different every day.

What time does it begin and what time do you suggest arriving?

The start time varies by season. If you're going during the high season then I would say about 30 minutes prior to start time. We went during a low season and just walked over about 5 minutes before it started.

I just saw a message from the webmaster posted on another section of the Disboards that stated that the search feature is temporarily inoperable. It is supposed to be fixed this evening.

But, here is a link to a thread that has some detailed information about the campfire start times based on whetheror not we are observing daylight savings time:

Campfire Information

I have never seen the campfire so busy that it was necessary to arrive more than a few minutes before the program starts.

My family really enjoys the campfire. My biggest tip would be to allow lots & lots of transportation time if you're using Disney buses. The easiest thing is probably to get to the Magic Kingdom and then take the Fort Wilderness boat.

You can get good information here: http://www.buildabettermousetrip.com/activity-campfire.php

And the movie schedule is posted at the beginning of each month here:

I think they also post the movie schedule on a "sticky" at the top of the disboards camping forum.

Bring your own sticks , mallows, dogs, whatever you wanna roast, save money. Course you can always buy from Disney, but thay are REAl proud of their stuff $$$.

We just spent two weeks at the Fort, and we took our little boy several times to the campfire to roast mallows/smores and dogs. Our little boy is 26 years old, but it's still great fun ! :thumbsup2

20 years afterwards somehow no session of campground stories is complete without mentioning their 3 times at the campfires..
