Once again for lots of reasons I had to change my ressies. I am now staying at Ft Wilderness cabins. All 6 of us together. From what i have seen the cabins look very nice. I have read lots of good things about them. Only one review has not bee a good thing. My question is what is the best way to get to the theme parks. We will have a car. DM has a scooter what we will be taking with us. Also not knowing anything about were things are I not sure what part to be close to. We dont have kids so being close to the playground is not something I have to be next to. I would like to be close to the pool the lake, parking and the busses. I know someone out there will help me. Thanks

Now things may have changed a bit since we stayed there in 1997 ... drive to the parks! (except MK) Keep in mind though, that the cabins were not anywhere near the boat dock to MK, so you had to catch an internal bus to get to the other end of FW to get a boat to MK. It was kind of a pain with a stroller, but still faster than driving to the TTC, catching a ferry/monorail to get to MK. For the other parks, you must take the internal bus to the check-in area, where you could catch busses to the different parks. There was also one of the internal busses that I think went from the TTC to the other end of FW (near the boat dock), but I don't think any of those busses went directly to the parks.

As for the internal bus system, FW is a series of "loops" -- you basically walk from your cabin to the beginning of your loop at the main road and there is a bus stop there. The pools aren't themed, but in the cabin, we were very close to one. It's a very peaceful, relaxing place to stay. At the end of a commando park day, it's nice to have such a drastic change from the busy excitement.

Enjoy!

Come on over to the Camping forum, but also stop by the transportation forum and ask your question there about getting around with the scooter. I am really bad remembering the colors of the buses for the different areas and parks - I know we take the purple buses to get to the cabins. You take buses from the cabin loops out to the entrance to FtW to catch buses to AK and Epcot, I think you take a bus from the Settlement to get to MGM - that's why I say hop on over to the camping forum and transportation as the buses are little confusing - but they are not when you are there, just when trying to think it through prior to being there.

The cabins have their own pool which is adjacent to loop 2500 and across the street from loop 2600. Bay lake is a bus ride away where Pioneer Hall and Crockets Tavern is located. This is where you will need to go to catch the boat over to MK, some of the boats also stop at WL and the CR.

We slept six in the cabins but two of of were under 3 years old. There is a full bed and bunks in the back room and a very nice and comfortable murphy bed in the living room. You can easily sleep four adults and two children.

I love the cabins and am now very dissapointed that this trip we will not be staying in them.

To get to the MK, take the boat. To get to MGM or AK, take a bus. For Epcot take the bus to the TTC and switch to the monorail. It's really very simple.

Another option: take the smaller boat to the Contemporary in order to get to the MK or Epcot.

Is there a " HOT Tub" at the Ft Wilderness Cabin? Also how many pools are there. Do the camping site and cabins have there own swimming pools or do they share with each other?
Plus I have seen pictures and it looks like we can park the cars right in front of the cabins? Can we still do that or have they stopped doing that.

Call my silly or not very computer smart but can someone tell me where the camping forum is. the one that caslegazer is talking about. I have looked but can not find it. Thanks everyone you are great.

I believe you are able to park 1 car right at the cabin. If you have more than that the other will have to be left at the parking lot near the entrance to fortwilderness.

Toward the bottom of the forum list there is a link to the "Camping at Disney World". Or just click here. :)

Does anyone know that park hours in Sept? We will be going Sept 14- 19. Yes I would love the park to be open longer hours but fthem again with so much other things to do DTD Disney Market place and DQ it would be nice to do thant stuff after the park closes and still not be bone tired. Also if the park closes so early do they still have the night time parades going on. and Wishes.

Mid-Sep is always one of the least crowded times of year and thus means a 7 to 8 closing for MK with sometimes later on Sat. Its nightly parade either will not run or go only one night a week (usually Sat if at all). MGM also has an early closing about the same range of time. Epcot still goes to 9, and AK likely to close at 5:30.

As to questions on Fort Wilderness: you have internal bus system that takes you to where you pick up other transportation to parks. Take boat from Pioneer Hall area to MK. Faster to drive anywhere else. Bus system did improve beginning about a year ago as they now have direct busses to all three of the other parks (after you take internal bus) and thus you don't have to switch at TTC anymore for Epcot as mentioned above. That internal bus system is very good and usually has some of the most entertaining bus drivers in WDW. The cabins are nice, in a quiet heavily wooded area, and you park right at unit (and you can actually fit two cars in your parking space as long as both are not large ones). However, the cabins are small and 6 is a very tight fit (you have only one small bathroom). There is no hot tub in the cabin. There is a pool near the cabins that is walkable but main pool requires bus and all pools are open to all guests at Fort Wilderness, campers included (they have another pool near the campground area). Trail's End is a good buffet restaurant and still the lowest priced buffet at WDW.

I found the cabins quite enjoyable. There were 3 adults and 2 children 7 and 9 when we went last year. Use your car to go to the parks. We took the boat to Magic Kingdom one morning and I swear it took us 45 minutes between waiting for buses to get you to the boat, waiting for the boat then it stopped at Wilderness Lodge before heading to the Magic Kingdom.

The cabin is a little crowed when it comes to getting reading in the morning but if you plan when people take showers you will be okay because there is a mirror in the bedroom so some one can get ready in there.

The grill outside is great along with the picnic table and deck. It was really nice to sit outside and eat.

Don't forget to go to the campfire if you are taking children it was a real treat for our children.

Do the water parks close at 6 -7 in Sept also? Could I do the MK during the day in the evening go to the water parks. I not a huge water slide person but going down the lazy river or the wave pool would be nice after a long day on my feet.
