Ft Wilderness Cabins May 15-22. WE ARE DOING WHAT?

Not to hikack but...if you are a camper or a person who likes state parks, it is super easy to navigate. But it isn't a true resort hotel, very different from that. We loved them but they are not for everyone. We liked them b/c it was so spread out, had privacy and had plenty of space, but if you want a resort feel...not a cabin in the woods, then I wouldn't do it. It was perfect for us. I see THV as being the fancier larger version, hence it being our choice for the next trip...a group of 8!

I also think it depends on the age group of your gang, a couple with 2-4 little ones wouldn't have any issues...as you get into teen, tween or more than 2 adults...it's tight.
Do check out the camping board. It is really geared towards camping and not the cabins but there is good info there.

Great advice :thumbsup2.

just read through your report, awesome job!!!! :goodvibes

Thank you :goodvibes. And thanks for reading.

I promise I will post more. I have been busy at work so I haven't had a chance to really give a full update.

I cooked a big breakfast in the cabin with eggs, bacon and toast. We went through a lot of that stuff in our week. We wanted to go back to the MK and ride some of the rides we had missed due to the rain. Amanda and Matt were being slow and we needed to take care of Niko. They actually made it into the MK before we did :rotfl2:. I had not made any ADRs for today so we decided for all of us to meet up in the MK for lunch. Tyler wanted a hair cut so he went to the barber shop and got in line. Dale, Dallas and I headed for The Laugh Floor again because Dallas loved it and Dale had not seen it. About the time we got finished there Tyler was calling, he had finished his hair cut. He loved the barber shop and the cut was only $17.00 :thumbsup2.
In my previous life I was a cosmetologist and I was charging that for haircuts in 1984. So, I asked if he got the glitter or a Mickey head and of course he didn't. He said there was a Barber Shop Quartet and he really enjoyed it.

I pre-paid for the photopass cd and it was NOT a good thing on this trip thanks to the rain.

This was by CP on our way to meet up with Matt and Amanda. This is a horrible picture of me. But a good one of the guys, notice Tyler's hair?

If you look in the background you can see the dark clouds starting to form :sad2:.

So we headed to PP to get our FP and about this time Amanda called. She and Matt wanted to go back to Epcot, so much for meeting up for lunch :sad2:.
She and Matt had this made when they got there.

Dale, Dallas, Tyler and I ate at Columbia Harbor House. I didn't take any pictures because a hamburger is a hamburger. Dale, Dallas, Tyler and I headed to HM, we had fast passes for PP and we still had about 45 minutes until time. A quick back track......... Dale had left us at the TTC and went out to park the van. AGAIN he forgot the ponchos. Now back to the present. So while we are riding HM, guess what happened? Can you guess? I bet you can't. Nope, you are wrong. It was not raining, it WAS POURING. The CMs rushed us all out into this storm :scared1:. We headed to the little store across from CHH and worked our way in and bought MORE ponchos. They really are useless in this type of rain though. So by now it is time for our PP fast passes so we trudge our way there and get in the FP line. We rode it and I didn't take one single picture. I was so tired of taking the camera out and then putting it back up. When we got off PP it was raining harder and to the added fun it was now LIGHTENING. Yes, it was bad. We made our way to the front of the park so we could leave. All the way lightening is popping around us and there was NOWHERE to get out of it. Every place was packed with people. We made it to the area under the train station and Amanda calls and asked us to please come back to the cabin. She said "this weather reminds me of Katrina". I assured her we were on our way there. We make it to the monorail with 7,899 other people trying to leave the park.....:lmao:. We get to the TTC and the rain STOPS. We walked over to the kennel and took care of Niko. It had rained soooooooooo hard water was puddled in my shoes. I could move my feet back and fort and the water in my shoes would run front to back........:scared1:. I was wet from head to toe in spite of the poncho.

We went back to the cabin and showered. We ate something we had there and decided to stay in for the rest of the day. Sorry I don't have very many pictures of this day.

That stinks about the monsoon that hung over Disney during your vacation. What a bummer. At least you were at Disney though! Even the rain is magical there!! OK, so now I'm stretching it!!:lmao: I hope you have a dryer time in October. I can't wait to see how the weather is then since we want to go during that time next year!

You may be stretching it a wee bit........:lmao:. We did have a good time though because it was Disney. I'm hoping for a dryer time when we go back too. The first time I went in '86 I went about the same week, it was hot but not much different from what we deal with in May. It is the peak of hurricane season so we will have to pray there isn't one out there. I am just waiting for September/October hours to come out so I can make my ADRs in 2 weeks because I will be at the 90 + 10 mark.

Glad to see an update Dana! Were the burgers at CHH good? I've never eaten there. Hey I remember those dark skies...:lmao: The rain was a real bummer Mon-Wed. :sad2:

Yep, we drove home in those dark skies!! We were at DTD, ate lunch, and the sky fell!!! that was the worst rain all week on that day I think!! So, we drove home, and dried out...that sucked ya'll had to buy so many ponchos!

Dana!! We ate at CHH on Wed too!!! Idid take a sandwich pic LOL I was so happy the rain held off cause the girl's had breakfast with CInderella that am. We tried to go to DTD- it was POURING, went back to the hotel and ended up at DTD for dinner.

Thanks Leanne. It's funny that you ask because I had to turn and ask Dale because I had forgotten, he says "What hamburger? I had to eat chicken strips". Then my brain came alive :rotfl2:. It's bad when you get so old you don't even remember what 'cha ate.....:sad2: We had the chicken strips and Tyler had the fish. Tyler and I shared and it was pretty good fish. I usually don't like fish, but it smelled good and when I tasted it, it was not a bad fishy taste. The chicken was ok too.

Yeah I too think the rain was the worst that day too. Had I known Amanda and Matt were gonna run out on us I would have went to DTD and met up with y'all :sad2:. It did suck about the ponchos, I think I now have a life time supply.........:lmao:.

The food there was good. I want to have breakfast with Cindy too, but my guys say no :sad1:. I want to feel like a princess princess:. No I want to feel like a Queen, I am the queen...............of the laundry heap........:lmao:.
We went to DTD on Friday....kinda a sneak peak into future update.....:surfweb:

Well Dana your day sounded like a few of ours... glad to hear ya'll were able to get some in before it started... I know how Amanda feels about the weather... we rode Katrinia out at home...if the television would have worked and I would have been able to see the weather station Danny would have been a dead man that night... we sat in the house listening to trees falling and the siding being pulled off the house in strips...

Dana ya'll day sounded like a few of ours...glad to hear ya'll were able to get some things in;)...tell Amanda I know how she feels with the weather...we rode Katrinia out:eek:...if we would have been able to watch the weather channel that night as it came ashore Danny would have been a dead man that night...we sat in the house listening to very large pine trees fall all around the house and the siding peeling off the house...

we sat like fools waiting for "Fantasmic" in the monsoon and lightining (fools...
:scared1:)

Oh what a drag about the rain! Even for us northwesterners, who are used to gettign soaked...once you add lightening, it's a little freaky. I vividly recall our gang hightailing out of the Grand Canyon last july in such a storm.

I LOVE the main street barber. My DS8 and DS9 got haircuts there, DS9 did the full pixie dust treatment (pics are in my Trip report lol!). An Amazing haircut for both of them and for kids, it's only $14!

I think DS9 will be getting his hair cut there for the rest of his life.

:)

We too rode Katrina out at home. We left for Ivan only to drive home from Anniston to find a tree on our house. I can remember the night Frederic hit Mobile in 1979, it was a very frightening night. Hey, I am so old I remember the night Camille hit, I was 6. My mom lived in Pascagoula, but came to Mobile to ride out the storm.

For all our Dis friends who have never experience a hurricane, it is very scary and when they hit at night VERY DARK. You pray A LOT.

I was caught in a bad storm today. I was at Winn Dixie when a bad storm came up and lightening struck a transformer across the street from the store. Scared a worker half to death, she had walked outside just before the bolt struck and she ran back into the store scared half to death.

we never leave!!!!
even when we lived on the southshore... we left last year for Gustauv...Danny said he will never leave again (his mom and dad evacuate to our house)...I told him Ashton and I would leave a few days ahead this year and head to TN or maybe Tampa (w/Bonnie--depending on track) but, it really has to be a bad one for me to leave also...I know not smart but whatcha gonna do we don't have to worry about water just winds, tornados, and trees...
I just hope we are entering the quiet season again sooooon!!!!

I would love to come to the northwest. I think I could live there and really like it, well, expect for the cold........:lmao:. I always believed it rained so much in Seattle until our news said it rained more here than any where else in the country :scared1:.

Study Reveals Top 10 Wettest U.S. CitiesBy Andrea Thompson, LiveScience Staff Writer

"Do you think Seattle is the rainiest city in the United States? Well, think again.

Mobile, Alabama, actually topped a new list of soggiest cities in the 48 contiguous states, with more than 5 feet of rainfall annually, according to a study conducted by San Francisco-based WeatherBill, Inc."
Yep thats me.................:sad2::sad1::scared:

I wonder if the SF gal for WeatherBill stayed here the whole year. If so then she got to do Mardi Gras................woooooooooohooooooooooo:joker: :woohoo:

I usually cut their hair, and I had pushed for Dallas to get his hair cut at the barber shop, but he refused. I was glad Tyler tried it and I will push again in September for Dallas to do it. Any time I can get away without cutting hair I LOVE IT...........:rotfl:

We left for Ivan because my Mom was living with us and she is crazy scared of bad weather. There were 6 of us in a hotel room in Anniston. We had a blow up mattress that we used for Dallas and Tyler to sleep on. It was a horrible drive home down I-65 because the power was out most of the way back. Dale said the same thing about leaving that Danny did. So when Katrina came we just sat and watched trees falling down in our back yard and seeing stuff flying around everywhere. We were blessed that the only damage we got came from the pressure building up in the attic and it blew the attic door out. I am glad it is in our garage. I won't go to a shelter again either. When hurricane Dennis was coming my mom was freaking out again so we went to the shelter because it was too late to leave. OMG it was horrible. We were in a stairwell and once you are there you belong to them. You can't leave. We got very minimal winds because it turned and went in at Pensacola. I told the lady at the desk that the national guardsman was gonna have to shot me in the back because I was leaving :scared1:. Everybody just started walking out so we did too.

I hope it is a very quiet season again too.

My friend Kristy and her family left last Thursday to head to The World. If you read my PTR she is the one I helped with her planning. Well she called me from Disney Wednesday, while I was at work, and said her 6 yo son was sick. She said his ear was draining and he was crying due to the pain. Kristy is also a nurse so she knew he had an ear infection or swimmers ear because they had been swimming a lot since they got to Disney. So she asked if I would talk to his pediatrician when she came in the nursery and see if she would call in some antibiotics. She said she didn't know where to have them called in or what to do. Soooooo, I told her to get the phone book and give me the phone number to the Walmart on Turkey Lake Road and I would get Dr. McDonough to call some antibiotics in there, and if she wouldn't do it I told Kristy to call the Urgent Care Clinic in Celebration or she could call Centracare for a doctor to come to the room. Well, it wasn't Dr. McDonough it was another doctor and I wasn't sure if she would do it or not, but long story short I got Kristy on the phone and Dr. Roberts got her son's weight and allergies and she then called some antibiotics and ear drops in at the Walmart. Kristy said the pharmacists told her that he thought it was great that her doctor did that for her. Dr. Roberts asked me how in the world I knew so much about Orlando. One of my co-workers spoke up and said "She knows anything you need to know about Disney and Orlando" :lmao:. Dr. Roberts said if she ever needed someone to plan a trip for her she would call me :rotfl2:. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm sounds like a good side job. "Dana the Disney Trip Planner" :rolleyes1. I spoke with Kristy Wednesday night and she said she had called the Centracare to see how much it would be and it would have been $250 cash :scared1:. That is just for the doctor to come to the room and see you that doesn't include the Rx. Good thing she didn't have to use them.

It seems as if somebody always get sick on a trip to Disney. I think every trip we have made at least one of us got sick. Did somebody get sick this time? Who, if anybody, was it? What did they have? More to come on that fun.............................................

Poor little guy; hope he feels better and they are able to enjoy the remainder of her trip... wouldn't that just be the best side job "Disney Planner" how fun -LOL!

They came home today. They had a great time. That would be my dream job. I wouldn't want to be a travel agent because I would only want to plan vacations for Disney World.........:cloud9:.
