Ft. Wilderness Cabin

Tell me about the Ft. Wilderness Cabins. What you like. What you don't like. Would you stay again? Did the make up of your family or whether you had a car make a difference? Thanks!

My family and I stayed in the cabins earlier this year and absolutely loved them. They are relatively secluded and authentic, yet you still experience the Disney atmosphere.

The cabins are a good size and had adequate space for my family of 5. However, if your group is larger than 5, I would maybe consider a different location. A single bathroom can get crowded in the mornings.

We had our car, but never used it once we parked at our cabin the first day. Be sure to request a cabin near a bus stop. We stayed in the 2700 loop and were only steps away from the bus stop. Being a boat ride away from MK was definitely convenient.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would choose the cabins again!

They are secluded, that could be good or bad depending on what you want in a vacation. They are nice and quiet when compared to most of the other Disney hotels. Plenty of room, full kitchen, get to park right in front of them. I like them and would stay there again. Fort Wilderness is also a neat place with lots of outdoor activities most wouldn't expect to be found on Disney World property.

If you rely on the busses to get around, it will take you a bit longer than the other hotels. Not a big deal if you know that going into it.

We stayed their last year and really liked it. This was our first trip to fly down but I wished we had a car for at least one day just so we could have gone to the store for cokes, hahaha, I have to have my diet coke and the refillable mug here didn't work for us, too far to fill. Also it would have been fun to have cooked out on the grill. With that said I have since found out that you can order groceries and have them delivered which is what I will do next time. We never had a problem with the buses, yes you have to take a bus to catch the bus to 3 of the parks but seriously that was not a problem. Also looking back on it and just coming back from the BC, to me the FW buses were never full. It seems like it was such a more laid back, relaxed atmosphere that we came back more relaxed. Would recommend them definitely.

We love the cabins. We like having a kitchen and 2 separate rooms with tv's. The only thing that I do not like is when I get stuck on the bottom bunkbed. It seems very short and uncomfortable to me. I am only 5'6" and I have a hard time sleeping in them. We usually rent a golf cart, but there have been days that we did not have one and made out fine with the internal buses.

We've concluded that it's the best option for us. The price is much less expensive vs. a 1 BR villa, and the only thing missing is the washer/dryer. We request loop 2500 which is right next to the pool and laundry room, so it's not a problem for us.

The fact that you'll never hear feet running above you, or toilets flushing, or noise of people running past your door is really great. Last year at OKW, we had a herd of elephants staying right above us and while it didn't ruin the vacation, it was less than peaceful.

The only downside is storage, but others have shown me all the little nooks and crannies to store stuff, plus the "duh" moment - store unused items in your vehicle!

We are getting a golf cart this time, but we've been there using buses and they are fine. Much better than someplace like Saratoga Springs where you have a huge resort and you have to use park buses to get around.

We definitely recommend it!

This property worked great for us when we brought my MIL on our trip a few years back. Also, it was handy to have a kitchen for an easy (and inexpensive) breakfast while everyone got ready for the park visit of the day.
