Didn't know if anyone posted this or knew about it, but Ft. Wilderness is in the process of being evacuated in preparation for Wilma. Pixie dust to all!

I just read this myself on allearsnet. It indicated that they were being evacuated to the All Star resort. Will be thinking of all of you down there.

We were evacuated for Charley last August to Riverside. Disney handled it beautifully; all questions were answered to the utmost satisfaction, and it was very clear that the safety of the guests was the primary consideration.

I made the mistake of booking Trail's End restaurant tonight (Sunday). So went to the campground and noticed there was not an RV or car or anything around! Yep, everyone was evacuated. Some were evacuated to Riverside, as I saw RV's in the parking lot. The CMs said it was mainly because of the foilage and they were afraid of trees coming down. Trail's End canceled the buffet but still let people order the to-go menu. Hoop-de-Doo was still going on. Very weird seeing the campground so empty!!!!!!!

We were scheduled to leave today, and had a late flight. We had checked out of our cabin and went to the Wilderness Lodge, the Contemporary and took a ride on the monorail.

When we came back from our jaunt, the place was empty and all the water mice had been tied down. Also, all the tables and chairs from the deck area had been removed. DH said, "they must be hunkering down for Wilma." A lot of RVs and campers were in line to leave when we caught the boat launch originally, but when we returned it was a ghost town.

We returned out golf cart and, as we were walking up to the the bus stop, a CM stopped us to make sure we knew they were evacuating. Anyone who had a stay beyond todau (Sunday) was being relocated to another resort (mostly the Allstar, we heard). Everyone was expected to be let back into Ft. Wilderness on Tuesday.

We had a great stay. . . .used ME with no issues. I would definitely use that service again! Let me know if you have any questions.

Out of curiousity, was this campers only? Or were people in Cabins evacuated too? I'm wondering because the cabins are upwards of $200 + a night and being moved to All Stars doesn't seem comparable. Or are these people getting a partial refund? Just curious for next year's trip planning. Thanks.

The cabins are evacuated, too. FW is heavily wooded and there is a strong possibility of a tree coming down during a hurricane. Also, the cabins are really just mobile homes with fancy siding. Not where I would want to be in a hurricane.

Have you ever been involved in an evacuation for a natural disaster? If you had, you would realize that economics is not a primary concern. I'm sure Disney will arrange for some sort of compensation for the difference in accommodations, but my primary concern would be the safety of my family and myself, not how much I paid for my room.

Sorry, my question was not meant to be insensitive. I was just curious what to ask for or what to do in the event I am faced with this situation next year. Have I ever been evacuated? Well, no, but I've lived in tornado alley in either OK or MO all my life. And homes near me literally destroyed, luckily we survived with only debris in our yard. Sorry if I offended you.

BTW, I hope everyone in Fla got through this safely and with their lives as that truly is the most important.

HA! Your question didn't offend me. And let's be real, I don't see Disney putting people up in the GF, Poly, WL etc. Yeah, I'm sure economics plays NO part in Disney's decisions either. There was nothing wrong with that ?.

I was actually wondering the same thing about the cabins myself! Certainly the cabins are not equal in price or ammenities (sp?) to the value resorts. And many people choose the cabins because they sleep six. A value resort only sleeps 4, so they may have had to put some people at other resorts anyway. Or give them 2 rooms.

i would not be happy if i paid the price of a cabin and was relocated to the all stars

I think I'd be happy to be offered a hotel room at the All Star Resorts instead of being given the option of finding my own way to the hurricane shelter.
