I know that some that cruise out of Miami stay in Ft Lauderdale, so the question I have is there anything clean and reasonable?

Since our next trip is out of Ft Lauderdale we may just write off the hotel price as the price of cruising, but they do seem really high, 300+ a night. We did find one though that offered complimentary drink(s) at night and cook to order breakfast in the morning. The nice thing though is that they are right on the port so that is great, but wow, I thought Miami was expensive.

We stayed at Embassy Suites on 17th (likely the one you noticed with breakfast and drinks), and we didn't find it to be expensive, and it definitely wasn't 300+. It's all going to depend on when you're there, really.

It's possible we hit an event weekend, but I searched some calendars and couldn't come up with anything. What did you think of it, was it pretty nice?

We usually stay at the Hilton Marina, right on the water. Our up coming October trip we have room for $ 119 per night. We come in a couple days early so we can enjoy the area, water taxi is all day unlimited ticket and we get our use out of it. Directly across the hotel marina is 15th Street Fishery, love lunch on the pier and watch all the yachts coming and going. Also about 4 or 5 blocks from Bimini Boat Club with great food and nighttime entertainment.

Hyatt Pier 66 is our favorite hotel in the area but probably where you saw the $ 300.

I really liked the Embassy. Breakfast was very good.

I would take a cab over to the port, though, rather than their shuttles. Faster and cheaper if you have more than two people.

What dates are you looking at? Maybe others can scour google along with you for an event?

Really depends on when you are going... We are staying in Ft. Lauderdale pre-cruise on President's Day weekend and virtually everything near the port is $300+ a night. We always stay at the Hyatt Place and it's not worth anywhere near $300 a night, but that's just the going rate in town for that particular weekend.

It really depends on when you are going and what is going on in the area. There are plenty of places less than $300.

I just realized that it is a Friday night too, which I know around here usually doubles vacation spot hotel rates, not good planning on our part. Will have to keep in mind to try and find cruises that go out midweek.

Does anyone have a link for the Embassy Suites or Hyatt (both on or near 17th), because I believe I found them but neither will give a quote. One says system is down and the other my computer doesn't want to let it go through because saying its not authentic...Maybe its just my computer or I don't have the right ones.

Even though the price was high, the Embassy suites was the best deal we found so far for transportation and breakfast. It was also clear on the bedbug site too.

Thanks for that. Just checked Embassy it was $229. Where is the bedbug site? That would be so great to know for any trip.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Airport North in May. Free shuttle from the airport to hotel, free wifi and breakfast. Paid $169/night. Clean rooms, pool...we liked it and would stay again.

and one of my favorite restaurants (bar/grill) is Quarterdeck, about 2 blocks north of the ES. (I grew up in the immediate area). Darn good burgers, good Mahi Mahi. It's reasonable.

I am thinking that we just picked a bad time to cruise, their rooms are listed for over 300 when we go.

We did the Disney PC cruise out of Miami in May. We stayed at the YVE in a great room on the top floor overlooking the water. We could see the Disney cruise ship the morning of our cruise from the room. It was conveniently located across the street from Bayside Market with all its shops and restaurants right on the water. Also on side street across from YVE was a 24 hour CVS which was great for last minute items. We got their cruise package that included the great room with perfect view, great buffet breakfast in the morning and ride to the port for a total of $226 which we thought was fair. We did fly into FLL and took a go airport shuttle to the hotel. It's about 25 minutes from FLL to downtown Miami. The YVE hotel is one of the smaller boutique hotels in Miami with a wonderful view and great location. Lots going on in the park and Bayside Market. We loved it.
