Frustration! Must do that upgrade in person..... UGH

Okay - summary, let's see if I have this right.

1) I have a 6 day MYW ticket (purchased through Disney) due to a pre-planned trip in April. Not part of a package, but all my FP's for April trip are set for that family trip. Other family member tickets are not changing.

2) Since now I will be there next week, too, I want to have an Annual Pass instead.

3) I could TODAY buy an Annual Pass (as will call) and link that into MDE.

4) Once it's linked into MDE - I could make FP's on the AP for the next couple of weeks when I'll be in FL.

5) Now - if I do that - when is best time to cancel my 6 day ticket to not risk losing my FP's in April? Anytime after I know the AP is in MDE account or after I actually activate the AP in a week by showing up at a Guest Relations window and entering a park? Or does that not matter?

6) Or is safest way to upgrade to an AP from my ticket by doing this at a Guest Relations window inside (or outside?) a park? And by safest - I mean by safest in that I don't want to lose my April FP's.

1. This would only work if the ticket was purchased via Disney, correct?
2. If the ticket was purchased, say via UT, what would happen?
3. If they tried to bridge the ticket, you'd have to use it once and thereby losing one of the April FP+ days correct?

Sorry, for all the questions.

1. Disney will upgrade their own tickets and authorized reseller tickets. But, Disney will not "cancel" or refund tickets purchased from Disney.

2. UT has a "return policy" for tickets, but ONLY if they have NOT been linked to a MyDisneyExperience account.

3. Iffy. It's possible that the ticket CM will offer the current gate price for the ticket in the upgrade without park entry, but it would be wise to ASK the price before agreeing to the deal at that particular window.

You cannot cancel your 6-day tickets.

Safest is to NOT USE the ticket before you do the upgrade.
(And hope the CM is generous and gives you current full gate price… best to ask the price before doing the upgrade.)

One more possibility.

Expensive now, but a future "investment."

Right now, you could order a new AP ("Will Call") and
connect it with your MDE (should happen automatically when you make the Will Call order.)

Once the AP is connected, make your FP+ for your upcoming trip, and keep the FP+ for your later trip.

Save the 6-day tickets for use/upgrading on a future trip.

I'm just sayin'

Another thing you may also need to consider, and maybe this has already been addressed, is that an annual pass has a seven day limit for fastpasses. If you have six days tied up in April, you may have to book each day of your March trip one at a time after using the 7th day. Although last summer I was able to book for off-site days in addition to days that were part of an on-site stay (12 days total booked at the same time), I have not been able to do that since November (more recently I can book more than 7 days if I have a 7+ on-site stay, but it would not allow me to book additional days for off-site days). I'm sure someone else can add their experience with similar situations if they have experienced something different.

On-site WDW resort stays override the 7-day AP FP+ limit.

True. I wasn't sure if OP was staying at a WDW resort or not for March.

There has been no mention (that I can see) of accommodations for the added upcoming trip.

But, since there IS an on-site stay discussed for the original trip, I just guessed…

Okay - I'm going with this answer. As much as I would have loved to have played with FP planning for the next week before I get there - it's not that big a deal. Preserving the family trip planning is a big deal. I did pay old price for my ticket - $10 difference to current gate. Maybe they'll be generous if I ask nice! :)

April trip is on-site. March is off-site.

Yes - I could hold onto that 6 day ticket for the future after the year of the AP - but I'd also really like that money to be going towards expenses now. After a year of AP (which means a third trip in fall 2015 and maybe fourth in Jan 2016) - that $300 is more than I typically pay for the plane flight!
