Went in right at 8:00 this morning to book a room at Aulani for May 26, which was available last night (in fact 3 different views). Now nothing. Our plans are toast.

You might be ok. Lots of Aulani 7 months walking going on right now. Check it lots of times tomorrow after 8 as the walkers walk by?

yeah looks like walking, it's only the first night that is unavailable. Booked a 1 bedroom as a fallback, but doesn't really work for us (me, wife and DD 27 and DS 23).

Walking doesn’t always work the same way at 7 months so it’s also possible that it’s just a popular time that people want to go.

But keep trying and waitlist!

are you saying none of the views available ? or the view you want? I am sure there are still rooms for that time, maybe just not the one your looking for. It sucks , but that is the system.

I suspect the issue was room size - the OP probably wanted a 2BR and those are became partial availability at 7 months.

We're booked for June and I have noticed that the 2BR units seem to book up faster than some of the historical availability tables show. If I tried to book our stay now (still beyond 7 months) it wouldn't be available in the room type and view we got.

The first night unavailable is the norm, not a sign of walking. I just only one of the existing reservations check out on the second day, then that category appears as available. Quite likely if there are dozens or hundreds of rooms.

The only discernible sign of a lot of walking going on is if nights start reappearing between 1 and 7 days after the booking window passes.

A word of commiserations for the people who walk at 7 months. It's very likely their walk will be interrupted by an owner who can jump in front of them. Walking at 7 months is pointless, unless maybe for just a handful of nights.

While I tend to agree about walking 7 months, there can sometimes be pixie dust. We were able to get 7 nights in a studio at VGC with walking. I knew that an owner could jump on it, but tried anyway. And that was mid summer. Never say never.

I agree, because I never want just one shot to get the room I'm hoping for, especially if it's a tough 7-month booking. It's usually only walked a couple of nights. I know an owner can mess that up but I've had good luck with it at several hard to get 7-month bookings. Why put all your eggs into one night and lose like the OP? I like my chances trying five times vs one.

Yeah I am looking for a 2 bedroom, any view. I plan to keep checking every day to see if I can pick up the rest of the week. We do have a little flexibility with the start date of the vacation by a couple of days. It's also frustrating that there are cash rooms available for our dates still, 2 bedroom villas. Just no points rooms. It's just annoying that literally yesterday there was availability and today when I could book there was not. I went in right at 8:00 too.

That just means there are a lot of non resort owners like you want the rooms, even if they are walking to future dates. Good luck.

Might not be what you want to hear, but Oahu is a very good island to split stay on. Ko'Olina is a bit set away from many experiences, and many people start in Waikiki and then move to Ko'Olina for some relaxation.

Or you can just split the stay in Ko'Olina... We're doing 2 nights at the Marriott and 5 at Aulani.

A split between Ko'Olina and Turtle Bay isn't a bad idea either. Two completely different micro-climates, different vibes, lots of different things to do, and no Waikiki...

So interesting turn of events. Went in the next day and was able to book our week for a day later since we had some flexibility. Decided to go in and waitlist the first day that we had wanted, and suddenly it was available. Went to modify our reservation and it disappeared again. So went to try the waitlist again, it showed up as available again, went to modify and this time it stayed available. So in the end we got the week we wanted in the size unit we wanted (not exactly the view we wanted and had to take the lock off even though we didn't want one). But crazy how quickly things changed over the 30 minutes from 8:00 to 8:30. Lots of people modifying and booking, etc. Now for the planning...

Glad it worked out! Aloha!
