My office is a half hour away.
It was painted on Tuesday. It's a bank, so windows, doors, etc can not be left open whenever the branch is closed. Basically, when we opened the doors Wednesday it REEKED. I got sent home (pregnant) because my Dr. said "If you can smell it, you shouldn't be in it."
I wasn't worried about the not getting paid thing because I figured the smell would be gone and it was only one day. It was no one's fault and it couldn't be avoided. I didn't say ANYTHING to my boss about compensation.

My boss let me drive there again today and then walks up and says "I don't think you can work again today, I've been here two hours and I can still smell it. I'll call HR about compensation, just go ahead home."
So I went home. I've now spent two hours traveling to/from work with no pay.
Reminder: I did NOT ask my boss about compensation. I was getting frustrated I was spending my time and gas to get there just to get sent home, but knew it was no one's fault so I didn't say anything. I felt bad enough leaving in the first place.

So she calls me about an hour after I got home and says "Come back and work at this other branch."
The other branch was recently painted so I don't know how that is any better and I'm sorry, but I'm in the middle of cleaning my house. I'd have to take another shower, another 20 minutes getting ready and spend another half hour driving up there.

Not to mention I don't know those people. It would have been one thing when I was ready to work, in town, to send me over there. But to let me go home and then ask me to get ready again and spend another half hour traveling to work with strangers?

Am I right to be beyond frustrated and irritated by her doing this? She gave me attitude when I said I didn't want to drive up there again today (just like she rolled her eyes when I "felt the need" to call my Dr. yesterday to ask about the paint fumes!). Tomorrow, sure. But I'm not going back today. We're only open another six hours, for goodness sakes!

I understand your frustration, but if I were in your shoes I think I would be careful not to antagonize my boss in today's job-market. There are too many people out there looking for work :guilty: .

agnes!

She's on probation with HR for inappropriate behavior. I'm not afraid of her.
Besides, she can't fire me for this. :confused3

I didn't antagonize her, either. I said "That other branch was painted the same time ours was" (she was on vacation, so she didn't know that) and told her I didn't want to spend another two hours getting there.
She's the one that got smart with me. :sad2:

Actually paint fumes are "okay" unless its painted with oil based paint. call up and ask what the base of the paint was. I painted my whole house (a few times) while pregnant.
