Frustrated with electric costs...what's your average bill?

TheRustyScupper!!! Haven't seen your name in a while! (maybe I just haven't been in the right places!)

1) Yes, I am coming late into this conversation.
2) But, my company is in the Green Fuel business.
3) We are not Solyndra, and are highly profitable.

4) I can tell you that electric bills will continue to rise.
5) In fact, they will take a major jump in 3-4 years.
6) That is when the major impact of Obama's new EPA regulations hit.
7) Coal-fired plants will start to close or add mega-millions of control devices.
8) And, these extra costs can, and will be, passed along to the consumer.
1) always welcome!
2) Ok
3) If it was, you'd be out of a job ;)
4) Yup
5) If not sooner
6) Try living in Ma. They're piling crap on top of O's crap.
7) Yup.
8) "Necessarily causing prices to sky-rocket". End quote.

Just trying to figure ways to get around that "necessarily" bit. Solar electricity is just not in our reach and haven't brainstormed another way to lower our costs. Not many ways left to me to cut costs.

We have paid nearly the same amount per month since we moved into our house 18 years ago. The last few years I have been getting those little pamphlets in the mail that say your electric usage is higher/more expensive than your neighbors, but I figured it was just bunk. After reading the electric bill thread on the community board, I think I DO have a higher bill than most! What gives????

Our bill is usually $75-$80 in the summer and anywhere between $100-$130 in the winter. We have solar hot water so that's why it's a little higher in the winter, the electric element comes on for an hour in the am & pm if the panels are snow covered or the water is not up to temp because of low sun. It's always higher at the holidays too for Christmas lights & baking, but I'm ok with that :santa: We heat with wood too, so no furnace is running in the winter.

No AC ever in the summer, but quite a few fans.

You obviously don't live in the southern CA desert! Lol. Our typical summer bill is $225 per month, if not more. A/C and swimming pool, but totally necessary. If we ever make the jump to solar, it would probably help tremendously!

Have you thought of going solar?
Who are you asking? We have solar hot water, but to put solar electric in would be ridiculously expensive and is not going to happen.

Ours is about $90 in the winter but goes up to around $120 in the summer with the AC. Heat and hot water heater are both gas though.

Our July bill is high too and I am not sure why as it has been very cool ie cold!

12.00 for gas and 150.00 for electric

We got a new A/C unit a few years ago (a Trane, which replaced a 25+ year old unit) and our electric bill was cut in half! We used to pay close to $200 a month in the summer; now the bill is rarely over $100. This month's bill was $83. Our house is 1400 sq ft (not including the full finished basement).

Our gas bill is about $25 during the summer but shoots up to $90 or so in the cold winter. But power is only about $30 in the winter, so it evens out.

Gasp !! just got my bill today. 391 bucks. Anyone know how much a kidney runs? I got one to sell. LOL

Sounds like ours!!!! We have a 2,100 sq foot house, with 1/4 of it shut off to save money (guest rooms -that used to be our kids rooms). Our house is twenty years old, we have seperate units for upstairs and main floor. I think our main energy sucker is a home office where we have two computers, two printers and a fax/printer. Oh, yes....we also keep our thermostat at 79 degrees in the summer!!!

Just got my bill. $344 for the month. But we had 8 straight days over 100 degrees, and all the rest over the month over 90.
2000 sq ft house, one story.

This July bill came to just over $150.00. It was pretty hot most of the month and we kept it @ 76
We also have two hvac systems, one for the upstairs, one for down.
4800 Sq ft house.

Everyone have a seat, I just paid our bill for one month, $800. Do I get a prize? Our Electric co op's summer rates are they double the regular rates. :lmao:

I can beat $800... Last July it was $987!!! It averages 100-103 in July here, we have 2 A/C units and a two story 4000 sqft house, with a pool. And we keep it at 80 in the daytime, and 78 upstairs at night

Phoenix area, 3100 sq foot two story house with everything except for the hot water being electric. No pool and budget billing. I pay 115/ month year round.

I do use programmable thermostats and keep it pretty warm (82) when the kids aren't home.
