frustrated with Disney deals

I know this is a silly thing to complain about, but I am frustrated! I am a teacher, on the East Coast, so we don't get out of school until June 17. We want to go to WDW the next week. All the deals aren't available after June 14. I understand it's peak season, but it's just so unfair that I have a job where I cannot take a week off work for a vacation and therefore I have to pay so much more money for said vacation. I wish they'd consider this when offering deals.

Disney doesnt need to offer deals during peak seasons because they can fill the hotels and parks without them. Its unfortunate that your chosen career doesnt afford you the opportunity to vacation during more affordable times.

Right, I understand that, as I said, but it can still be frustrating for me. Sorry for having any frustration over anything.

I'm a teacher also and agree about only being able to travel in peak times. I wish my district would go to year round so vacations could be taken other times. That is when I can actually afford to travel:lmao: Before anyone starts flaming about getting 2 months off every summer, I usually teach summer school and also take care of a disabled parent so WDW or any vacation doesn't happen every year.

Sometimes it's hard having your vacations dictated for you, isn't it? We've been able to go the past two years the week right before school starts and get good deals, so you can try for then! We're not going this year, so get a good deal for me! :) I don't know when your school calendar comes out, but I won't know the 2011 - 2012 dates until April at the earliest, so that makes planning those Aug. vacations hard.

well I know this subject makes people on these boards crazy but I too am frustrated so lets vent! I am not a teacher, just a parent, but I do feel like I am being forced to choose affordablity over taking the kids out of school. I would really prefer not to take the kids out of school in Sept next year (they will be 2nd grade, 1st grade and preschool) but it would save us so much money! I would love to go in the summer, so they don't miss school, but I am just not sure we can afford it. We didn't take a vacation last year in hopes of going to disney this year but without any kind of discount and how high the airfares are (best I can find is 1600 for the 5 of us for August), I am not sure how we can do it! Yes, I know people say they don't need to discount in the summer (although I think they did last summer?) but it is still frustrating - I hate to go another year without a vacation but hate to have to choose between money, memories and school. I just don't know what to do!

If you are willing to stay at The Swan or Dolphin they offer discounts for teachers at many time during the year.

Can you go at the end of August? We have the same issue with having a son in school. In Michigan our schools don't start until after Labor Day, so we always go at the end of August, which is also my son's birthday. We get lower crowds and good deals that way, in fact I just booked today with a 40% room discount. That code starts on 8/16. I hope you can work something out.

It is like we are the perfect disney patsy. We get out June 4th (if we don't have snow days) and we go back Aug 24th so we really can't take advantage of any of the deals!

I'm in the same boat except we go back to school the 3rd week of Aug, with teachers reporting the 2nd week. Just when the deals kick in, I'm back at work. The only reason we can go this year is the military discount. I've never had to go in June before and I'm really dreading it! I'm used to the slow times in Sept.

This is why we love year round schools! We get to vacation at various places during value seasons.

I hear you. Seriously considering our first time off site this summer.

Same here- between summer school and when college begins for the older kids there is a small window (non discounted) this year. But if you look at my siggy, we do go alot, just for 4-5 days at a time, adding on to a long weekend usually.

We went the week before labour day this year. Free dining was offered and the crowds were moderate and totally manageable. Yes it was ridiculously hot, but June will be too. Is this an option for you? Last week of August is considered value season as well:)

We went this past summer June 12th. I could handle 90 F heat just fine, we get that during August around here and that was what we expected for June in Florida. It was 103 on the coolest day! 90 to 103 is a huge difference. It was not enjoyable at all.

We have the reverse problem - we live in a high tourist area so during tourist season everyone is working like crazy and we're blacked out from taking vacation. So, the only time we're allowed to vacation is during the slow times. yes, we get the bargains, but the parks close early and I always have to pull my kids out of school. <sigh> It sucks when work gets in the way of having fun :)

I hear ya OP. We can only take vacation in July because of kids in school and dh's job. Therefore, free dining is just a fantasy for us but we have always gotten some sort of room discount (but nowhere near the cost of the dining plan). That being said, I do understand Disney is a business and why would they offer major discounts when they do not need to? At least in the summer we get longer park hours, more show times and the HOT weather:worship: Mind you, we come from Canada and it can never be "too hot".lol

Love the year round school. Our fall vacations give us the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks out of town. The down side is our summer break is abbreviated so we have to squeeze a lot of activities into 6 week window... and the best summer camp sessions are taking place right when we go back to school. It's a trade off.

My husband is a teacher and we had the same problem so we did the only thing we could do...we sold our house in AR and moved about 30 minutes from Disney!!! :cool1:
