Frustrated with AP rate room selection

So the new AP rates are out and I have been hoping to maybe stay in the royal theme room at POR... all royal room types are available at rack rate, but NONE are available at the AP rate.

I get that they are based on availability, but it seems as though none were made available.

And then when I was looking at other resorts it seemed as though room type was down across the board... only preferred at ASMo, but regular at rack rate, etc.

I had the same problem for our Feb trip. We just needed to add on 2 nights somewhere. French Quarter and POR were rack rate but CSR offerred the discount so we are staying there. I looked at values and Pop had standard rms but Movies only had preferred. Wanted to try FQ since we have never stayed there but I'm ok with CSR. It's one of our favorite resorts.

I called early yesterday and was able to get a standard room at POFQ for Feb 4th-11th.:confused3 For my dates, POFQ was the only moderate that even had standard rooms. I wanted CSR, but all that was available there under the discount were King, preferred, and suites. CBR didn't have any rooms at all and PORS had only the higher priced categories. WL didn't have any standard (just courtyard and bunk rooms), but AKL had all categories available including standard and pool views. The only Value that had standard rooms was POP. All three of the All Stars had only preferred rooms.:confused3

For seven nights POFQ standard room was $835.90 ($103. and $113./night before taxes).

I agree. It's annoying when a GP code still has standard rooms available 3 days after they came out, yet no AP standard rooms available 7am same resort, same day.

It seems like Disney has been using a more fluid discount method recently, based on occupancy. Since the GP discounts are usually not as low as the AP discounts, they may be offering the lower priced rooms at the lesser discount and the higher priced rooms at the higher discount.

I did notice that for my dates, there were no studios at any DVC resort except the usual SSR and OKW. Nothing at AKV, BCV, BWV, BLT, or VWL other than one bedroom and higher. That kind of surprised me. My experience has been the opposite - I usually see a lot of studios and nothing larger.

I was able to get one of my top resort choices at a price that fit in my budget, but it did seem like there was a lot less to choose from. I just thought it had more to do with the fact that I was booking the second day the code was out (I was traveling the day they came out) and that maybe everything had just booked up (especially since part of my trip is over marathon weekend). Sounds like availability was thin from the start.

Of course, we all have the option of booking GP codes instead of AP codes, if there's better choice or rates under the GP code. I've been known to do that a few times.

I ended up taking GP code standard room WL. I would have bought dining plan if I could have gotten AP room. I'm giving it up, can't see having another ticket laying around. Disney will make less off of us since we won't eat as many TS meals now.

Have you considered the TiW instead? We find that we eat at more TS restaurants, since we can eat what we want without limitation and still get a discount. Also covers adult beverages at TS places & resort bars.

Do you know if it is accepted at Teppen Edo, and Cape May?

I was dissapointed too at no Woods 9except bunk bed which was more then courtyard) at WL.. We have reservations at POR, which we love but if a woods or standard view came avail. at WL with AP we would have taken it. It's been awhile since we've stayed there.
So I've taken the AP rate at POR. I am undecided about adding on DDP this trip. We always get it, but was thinking of trying without. However wanted to keep that option open. We already have a 2 day ticket from Aug for DDP

So Disney will be making less on us too with not upgrading to WL.

With no AP discount is available,(now I dont know so dont judge me lol) if a Public discount or FD is offered, can you take advantage of that? We booked the Royal rooms at POR and hoping for a discount or FD. We are not AP holders but have considered this as an option.

Yes, if the resort and room category is available. I would call and ask if there is a general public discount is available for what you need.

When that type of thing happens I just assumed that the resort was out of rooms available with the Annual Pass rates, however they still have rooms with the GP code since that's a different discount.

:cheer2: Just wanted to update my post. Standard view AP rate just opened up at WL, so I switched from POR to WL Standard view :goodvibes

You need a pass or a voucher to log into the passholder site. Or you can ask on these boards for specific dates & resorts and people can look them up for you.

I am going to purchase a AP Thanksgiving week when I go down. (Staying Off Site). When I go in January for my birthday I'm staying @ POR with a GP rate. I would love to know the difference between the GP rate and the AP rate for the time frame I am there. Is some one willing to PM me with the info. I will send you my travel dates. Thanks in advance. :thumbsup2

The AP discount for moderate resorts for January is 35% off, if you book before December 3rd.

It appears the GP discount is 25%, so the AP rate is a better deal. I would call now and try to change over to the AP rate, to ensure you get your preferred resort and dates. You do NOT need to have a current AP to book now; you'll need to show it when you check in. Good luck.
